The Plymouth Board of Works has chosen a contractor for this year’s spring street and sidewalk projects.
Walsh & Kelly was awarded the bid during Monday’s meeting, according to Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver. The company submitted the lowest of five bids, at just under $636,000.

Culver Town Council Reviews Planned Community Crossings Road Projects
The Culver Town Council is moving ahead with this year’s Community Crossings grant application. Town Manager Jonathan Leist told council members Tuesday the town is looking to finish a couple road projects that were originally planned for last year: Lake Shore Drive from Lakeview to Main, including sidewalk repairs, and Clover Street from White to Clymax.

Bourbon Town Council Unable to Open Community Crossings Bids Due to Date Mix-up
Bourbon Town council members were expecting to open Community Crossings bids when they met Tuesday night. However, according to Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger, the bids were not available due to a miscommunication.
She explained, “We did not receive any bids, [we] did find out that JPR sent out to the contractors a different date than what was advertised.”
JPR stands for Jones, Petrie and Rafinkski, the engineering and architecture firm working with the town. Clerk-Treasurer Berger said that they’re currently doing what they can to reconcile the mistake. Continue reading
INDOT Contracts Ready for Community Crossings Projects
The INDOT contracts for projects awarded 2018 Community Crossing grant money were presented to the Marshall County Commissioners for signature Monday morning.
Highway Administrator Laurie Baker said after the contracts are signed the county can begin the process of receiving the grant money totaling $518,322.87. The county’s match is $129,580.72. Continue reading
Town of Culver Awarded All Requested Community Crossings Funding
Culver Town Manger Jonathan Leist informed the board last week that the town is one of the few communities in the area who received all the Community Crossings grant funds they requested this year. He said the $206,000 received will go a long way to assist with projects they have in the works.
Leist mentioned that work on College Avenue, parts of Jefferson Street and the entrance at the Sand Hill Farm are the three priority projects. He told council members that in their grant proposal they utilized estimates that came from E&B paving. However, since those numbers were calculated several months ago, Utility Superintendent Bob Porter is looking into quotes. Leist said he is expected to present those quotes at the next town council meeting. Continue reading
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Receives Community Crossings Update
Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul addressed the Board of Public Works and Safety during a meeting earlier this week. He provided board members with some information about the recently received INDOT Community Crossings grant.
Gaul said the City of Plymouth received half of the million dollars they were requesting. Initially seven projects were counted as contracts but since they weren’t awarded all of the funds requested they will be removing some projects. Gaul said he hopes to apply for the removed projects at a later date. Continue reading
Community Crossings Grants to be Announced Soon
Indiana Department of Transportation officials will be announcing the Community Crossings grant awards in the next few weeks.
Local government entities have been waiting patiently for the notice as officials would like to send next year’s projects out for bid that will utilize these funds.
INDOT to Award Community Crossing Grants This Fall
Local and county government agency officials are waiting patiently to learn if their road projects will be accepted for grant funds through the state’s Community Crossings grant program.
The competition for grant funds ramped up this year as the state dropped the local match requirement for all applications to 25 percent. Several more municipalities and city government agencies were able to submit requests this year as the local match made a $1 million grant more affordable for some.
Bourbon Street Department Ready to Submit Community Crossings Grant Application
The Bourbon Street Department finalized their projects to be submitted for the state’s Community Crossing’s grant application.
Communities the size of Bourbon were encouraged to send in applications as the local match was dropped to 25 percent this year. Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger told MAX 98.3 FM News that they will submit a list that benefits from a full $1 million grant match.
Marshall County Council Considers Road Plan for Community Crossings Grant
The Marshall County Council received the proposed list of roads to be submitted for consideration for a $1 million Community Crossings grant during their meeting Monday morning.
Commissioner Kurt Garner noted that one project was omitted from the plan.
Plymouth City Council Approves Appropriations for Police, Community Crossings Grant
The Plymouth City Council approved additional appropriations to compensate raises for police officers and to fund the city’s match toward the Community Crossings Grant should the city be awarded.
A public hearing concerning the appropriation requests was held with no comments from residents. The city council members went on to approve a resolution that covers the salary increase for the police department and the pension amounts. $10,000 was approved for the increase in pension and $80,000 for the police department salary increase.
Plymouth City Engineer Presents Preliminary Pavement Asset Management Plan
The preliminary Pavement Asset Management Plan was presented to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety on Monday.
City Engineer Rick Gaul explained that one goal is to improve the overall weighted average ratings of existing streets. The expected pavement level of service is to maintain 50 percent of the street rating as “Good”. According to the preliminary plan, the PASER rating will be equal to or greater than eight. Those include roads that are newly paved, crack seal coated or overlaid. Anything less will be deemed fair to poor. Several other criteria will be assessed in the plan including street traffic types, street traffic volume, utilities, and right-of-ways. A final plan will be submitted at the board’s next meeting.
Marshall County Council Supports Match for Community Crossings Grant
The Marshall County Council members gave their support to match funds toward a $1 million Community Crossings grant for work on the county’s roads and bridges. Even though the county is eligible for a 75/25 grant match split this year it was suggested to officials that the application include project plans in the $1.3 to $1.4 million range in order to capture that full $1 million match.
Marshall County Officials Set to Attend INDOT Meeting
Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a meeting at the La Porte District office to inform city, town and county officials about how to utilize the Community Crossings Local Road and Bridge Matching Grant Fund. More specific information will be given about projects eligible for funding, how to submit projects for matching funds, deadlines for project submissions, timelines for distributing funds and development of an asset manager plan.
Bourbon Town Council to Attend Community Crossings Meeting
Members of the Bourbon Town Council will make an effort to attend informational meetings concerning the Community Crossings Grant on Wednesday, May 31.
The meeting conducted by staff members from INDOT’s LaPorte District office will release information about what projects are eligible for grant funding, how to submit projects for matching funds, deadlines for project submissions, timelines for distributing funds and development of an asset manager plan.
