Community Crossings Grants to be Announced Soon

Indiana Department of Transportation officials will be announcing the Community Crossings grant awards in the next few weeks.

Local government entities have been waiting patiently for the notice as officials would like to send next year’s projects out for bid that will utilize these funds.

According to INDOT Northwest District Media Relations Director Doug Moats, INDOT received twice the number of applications this year so it’s taking more time to review and score the applications. The La Porte District, which covers 13 counties including La Porte, Marshall, Starke and Pulaski Counties, received over 430 applications.

He said not all entities may receive all of the match funding requested. In the majority of the cases, Moats noted the eligible entities may just receive funding for the project deemed as the highest priority as noted on the project list submitted for grant money.

About $150 million is available in the Community Crossings grant this year. Moats anticipates the fund to grow to $190 million next year with the increase in the gas tax. Communities can apply for funding every year.
