After consulting with a grant writer, Argos Town Council members were informed about an OCRA grant available for 90/10 match that could be utilized for a possible new Fire and EMS building.

Argos Town Superintendent Discusses Wastewater Plant Projects with Town Council
Argos Town Superintendent Jamie Lindstrom informed the Town Council about some renovation work needed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant when members met last Wednesday.
Lindstrom informed the council that he received a few different bids for some roof work that is needed at the plant. He didn’t provide a specific figure but after reviewing the companies he recommended Kolar Konstruction for the job. He also told the members that there is a stairway project that needs to be done. Argos Town Council Discusses Stellar Intergovernmental Agreement
Argos Town Council members discussed an intergovernmental agreement related to the Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Initiative when they met last Wednesday.
As a reminder, prior to Wednesday, November 7th, all the entities involved with Marshall County Crossroads must approve an agreement that designates two municipality representatives to sit on the board that will oversee the administrative functions of the regional stellar initiative. The Argos Town Council members approved the budget for next year.
The 2019 proposed budget is a little over $1.9 million while the levy is around $876,000.

Argos School Board Confirms Support for School Resource Officer
Efforts to bring a School Resource Officer into the Argos Community School Corporation continue to move forward.
Town Council members provided their support for the idea when they met earlier this month. School Superintendent Ned Speicher said that School Board members considered the matter at their meeting on Monday.
Speicher explained, “The school board did the same thing, they had a motion and approved stating that they’d work on the concept of having a School Resource Officer.” Continue reading
Argos Unveils New Town Logo at Well-Attended Reception Wednesday Evening
Argos Town Hall was buzzing with excitement Wednesday evening as community members from all corners of the county eagerly awaited the unveiling of the new logo created by Red Door Marketing.
Town Council Vice President Suzanne Umbaugh welcomed everyone to the reception and provided a bit of information about the selection process before moving on to the big reveal. Argos Town Council Holds Public Hearing over 2019 Budget
The Argos Town Council held a public hearing over the proposed budget for 2019 when they met on Wednesday. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said there were no comments provided by the public. The hearing was closed and council members went on with their regularly scheduled meeting where they approved the budget on first reading.
According to the Indiana Gateway for Governmental Units, Argos has a total budget estimate of $1,901,821. Continue reading
Argos Town Council Members Approve Resolution Showing Their Stellar Support
Argos Town Council members approved a resolution during their meeting Wednesday night that provides the Town’s support for the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar initiative.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that in the four years following the potential designation, the Town of Argos would provide a local match of approximately $280,000 during that time frame to cover the cost of the major projects they want to accomplish.
Mullaney said if the designation is received, the Town’s projects would include the installation of a series of trails, a housing development and the addition of more sidewalks. Continue reading
Argos Town Council Members to Consider Fire Department Run Ordinance Tonight
Argos officials met in a special meeting last week where they briefly discussed an ordinance pertaining to fire department runs.
Town Council members met with Fire Chief Mark Dean in order to go over the document on Thursday. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that currently the department only charges for structure fires. However, the Argos Fire Department frequently responds to other types of calls outside of the town limits. To help supplement the department’s budget, officials are considering charging for these other runs as well. Continue reading
Argos Officials Meet with EMS Director to Discuss Replacement Process, More EMTs Needed
Argos officials met with EMS Director Richie Miller last Thursday to discuss finding his replacement.
Director Miller announced that he will be resigning from his position officially on December 31st of this year. Town Council members met with him in a workshop to go over the duties and responsibilities of his position. They also used that time to brainstorm ideas about how the interview process should go.

In conjunction with Red Door Marketing, Argos officials will be holding a roll-out ceremony next month in order to officially reveal the town’s new logo.

Argos Officials Coordinate with Culver Tree Commission
While ArborLift revolutionizes tree transplantation, Argos officials have been coordinating with members of the Culver Tree Commission about making some arborous additions around town.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt reached out to the Commission members and they came into Argos to take a look at the trees that are already planted.
She explained, “They offered to come over and look at our trees downtown and they said we maybe have some that are not appropriate for downtown because they’ll get quite large.” Continue reading
Argos Zoning Book to be Updated, Spots Remain Open on Plan Commission
With the assistance of Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt, Argos officials on the Plan Commission and BZA are currently in the process of assessing and updating the Town’s zoning book.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared that the zoning book was last updated in 2015 and officials are currently working to find areas that need improvement in order to bring their zoning codes into compliance. Continue reading
Marshall County Historical Society Driving Tours to Highlight Notable Argos Stonemason
A reminder about an upcoming architecture tour was provided at last week’s Argos town council meeting.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney stated that the council members issued a reminder that the Marshall County Historical Society will be hosting the “Meet the Foker’s” Stonework Driving Tours on Sunday, July 29th. Mullaney added that the tours will be conducted in open-air trams borrowed from the Blueberry Festival.
In a previous interview, Historical Society Assistant Director Sue Irwin shared that the tour will focus on buildings that were designed by Argos Resident William Lake Foker, an accomplished stonemason of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Continue reading
Argos Town Attorney Shares Progress Report with Council Members
A couple of different projects in the Town of Argos are free to commence now that some preliminary matters have been handled. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said that at last Wednesday’s meeting, Town Attorney Derek Jones informed council members about some paperwork that had been finalized.
She explained, “He got the easements signed for Westview Court and Woodland Trail and the Colonial Estates deed has now been recorded and put into the Redevelopment Commission’s name.” Continue reading
