Plymouth BOW/Council to Meet Tonight

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members are anticipated to award a proposal for a short term lease at 220 N. Center Street when they meet tonight. They also plan to discuss a resolution that authorizes the transfer of equipment from the clerk-treasurer’s office to the wastewater utility and transferring equipment to the Plymouth Park Department. In addition, a few requests for street closures and a stop sign will be before the governing body.

BMV Announces Labor Day Closure

The Labor Day holiday will create a change in hours at all Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches. All branches will be closed Saturday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 4.

The La Porte, Plymouth, Walkerton, and Winamac branches will open on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 8:30 a.m. local time while the Knox branch will open again on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Casey’s General Store Receives BZA Approval

The former Burger King on Plymouth Rd, in Bremen that has been abandoned for about 2 and a half years will be occupied by a new company following a decision made by the Bremen Zoning Authority during a meeting last week. Casey’s General Store received the BZA board’s approval on their submitted application and is currently going through the proper channels to purchase the property and receive all the necessary permits.

Marshall County Commissioner and Bremen Historian to Speak at Historical Museum

The Marshall County Historical Museum invites you to pack a lunch on September 9th and join them from noon to 1 p.m during their “Shiver Me Timbers” Historic Barn Revival Brown Bag Presentation. Mindy Langdon, Museum Community Relations, said they take into consideration that some people may need to get back to work if they’re attending the presentation during their lunch break so 10 minutes is allotted at the end for a Q&A but people are free to leave at this time. Supportive Housing Project Proposed for Plymouth

A proposed permanent supportive housing project could become a reality in Plymouth.

Compliance and Quality Assurance Manager for The Bradley Company Mary Gibson told the Plymouth City Council that the focus is to stop the cycle of homelessness.

“The Plymouth Supportive Housing is considered long-term housing which ties in support services to homeless households so that they can be successfully independent,” said Gibson. “Without the support services, the same households that we’ve housed will go back and cycle through homelessness.”

Marshall County Prosecutor Files Drug, Prostitution Charges against Plymouth Man

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman filed five charges against 68-year-old James A. Irwin, of Plymouth, who is suspected of drug dealing and solicitation of prostitution.

Irwin is facing felony charges of dealing in a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, dealing a substance represented to be a controlled substance, and promoting prostitution. Two misdemeanor charges of patronizing a prostitute have also been filed. Additional charges are being considered by the prosecutor’s office.

Marshall County Bridge Projects Moving Along

One Marshall County bridge is almost complete while another is in the design phase.

Ben Beer from USI Consultants told the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday that Bridge #174, or Apple Road Bridge, is nearly complete.

“They should have everything completed this week,” said Beer. “They’re paving and putting up guardrail and seeding and then they’ll be out of there. There are no change orders. Everything was within budget.”

Culver Town Council Considers Formation of Economic Development Commission

The Culver Town Council considered the first reading of an ordinance that creates the Culver Economic Development Commission, a board that can approve residential tax abatements.

The commission will have three members: one appointed by the Marshall County Council, the second appointed by the Culver Town Council President and the third appointed by town council. The years are staggered with the town council president appointee serving three years, the county council appointee serving two years and the town council appointee serving one year. After those terms expire, the successor will serve a four year term. Qualified members can be a county resident, a business owner in Culver or work in town of Culver.

With an increase in skimming devices being discovered at gas stations this year, AAA warns drivers to be extra cautious about paying at the pump. Plymouth Police Looking for Armed Robbery Suspect

Plymouth Police detectives are searching for a suspect in a reported armed robbery incident at Verizon Wireless Monday night.

The victim told police that the man entered the store at 1605 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth wearing a mask, orange vest, black pants, and shirt. The suspect, a black male, branished a weapon and reportedly took several phones from the store. The man left the business in an unknown direction.
