Shady Rest Committee to Hold Second Meeting

Shady Rest Home

The Shady Rest Committee will meet soon to discuss soft proposals and other needs for the facility on Lincoln Highway in Plymouth.

The Marshall County Home has been empty since the county took over the property on Aug. 1. The Bowen Center vacated the property after many years of service to those needing mental health assistance.

Proposals for occupancy are due Sept. 5. The information indicating use, ownership, structure, ability to sustain operations and maintenance, and approximate number of individuals who would benefit from services provided should not exceed three pages. Forward the document to Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner, 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.

It is the hope of the commissioners that a not-for-profit group takes over the building to help the needs of Marshall County residents.

The committee is expected to meet on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. in the second floor meeting room in the Marshall County Building in Plymouth.

Marshall County Maintenance Department crews are maintaining the grounds and preparing the building for the winter. Police are patrolling the area for security purposes.
