Multiple prostitution charges have landed a man in the Marshall County Jail. Jim Irwin was arrested on five charges, according to jail staff.
Plymouth City Wheel Tax Ordinance Tabled
Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi gave the city council members the proposed ordinance for a municipal excise surtax and a municipal wheel tax on second reading.
Surrisi recommended setting the maximum rate to capture money for the construction of roads and streets.
Marshall County Bridge Projects Moving Along
One Marshall County bridge is almost complete while another is in the design phase.
Ben Beer from USI Consultants told the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday that Bridge #174, or Apple Road Bridge, is nearly complete.
“They should have everything completed this week,” said Beer. “They’re paving and putting up guardrail and seeding and then they’ll be out of there. There are no change orders. Everything was within budget.”
Culver Town Council Considers Formation of Economic Development Commission
The Culver Town Council considered the first reading of an ordinance that creates the Culver Economic Development Commission, a board that can approve residential tax abatements.
The commission will have three members: one appointed by the Marshall County Council, the second appointed by the Culver Town Council President and the third appointed by town council. The years are staggered with the town council president appointee serving three years, the county council appointee serving two years and the town council appointee serving one year. After those terms expire, the successor will serve a four year term. Qualified members can be a county resident, a business owner in Culver or work in town of Culver.
Argos School Board Approves Parking Lot Projects
The Argos School Board approved two projects related to needed renovations in the school’s parking lot during a meeting Monday evening. The first project, drainage line installment, will begin August 28th and will temporarily impact dismissal procedures at the school. Continue reading

Plymouth Police Looking for Armed Robbery Suspect
Plymouth Police detectives are searching for a suspect in a reported armed robbery incident at Verizon Wireless Monday night.
The victim told police that the man entered the store at 1605 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth wearing a mask, orange vest, black pants, and shirt. The suspect, a black male, branished a weapon and reportedly took several phones from the store. The man left the business in an unknown direction.
Two Roads Closed Wednesday for Fog Seal Operation
Two Marshall County roads will be closed today so county highway crews can perform fog sealing operations.
Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county commissioners on Monday that Overmyer Drive and Pioneer Drive recently underwent chip and seal road work and now the final fog seal will be applied that will help extend the condition of the road. Striping of the road will occur next week.
The roads will reopen as soon as the fog seal coating is dried. Peters suggested that it would take roughly two hours to properly seal.
Commissioners Review Multi-Purpose Building Plans
The Marshall County Commissioners received an update on the progress on plans for a multi-purpose building to be built on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Argos.
Shannon McLeod with Priority Project Resources went over the paperwork and process for the proposed building that will act as a building to host many public events in the Marshall County area. The project has been scaled down to an 8,000 square foot building with a steel frame building. The interior will feature drywall and concrete flooring. It will accommodate a seating capacity up to 400 people.
Plymouth City Council Discusses Salary Ordinance
The Plymouth City Council discussed the proposed 2018 salary ordinance in a special session Monday night.
The ordinance was presented by Emily Kruyer-Collins who works as Human Relations for the City of Plymouth. It details the salaries requested for department heads and employees as given in a salary survey by employee and supervisor input. Supervisors and managers were then given that information to validate the information.
Culver Town Council, Stellar Committee Prepare for Site Visit
The finishing touches are complete on the Stellar Strategic Investment Plan for submission to the Stellar Communities Designation Program committee for the Town of Culver.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist said Union Township submitted a letter of support toward the project along with a $40,000 contribution toward the effort. The Marshall County Community Foundation, in coordination with the Vonnegut Fund through the organization, contributed $80,000 toward the bike and pedestrian trail project and Elkay Manufacturing is partnering with the town to provide cabinetry and plumbing fixtures for the proposed Sandhill Farm workforce development housing project.
Pre-Kindergarten Program Coming to Argos Schools Soon
The Argos School Board met for their monthly meeting Monday evening and discussed a program that they will be offering for the first time this year. The “Lil Dragons” all-day pre-K program is set to kick off in September of this school year. Continue reading

Plymouth City Council Discusses 2018 Budget
The Plymouth City Council members discussed the 2018 budget in a special session Monday night.
The budget is tightened up for 2018, according to Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver. She said that every department worked diligently to cut their budget and department heads and managers are not to spend more than 95 percent of their budget.
Marshall Co. Commissioners Support Highway Dept. Request for Funds
The Marshall County Highway Department will be asking the county council for some additional funds and money transfers in order to pave more county roads this season.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county commissioners that he’ll be requesting $550,000 to $600,000 in an additional appropriation before the county council on Monday, Sept. 11. Continue reading

The Shady Rest Home Advisory Committee is asking for soft proposals from parties interested in long-term use and occupancy of the Marshall County property formerly known as “Shady Rest”. Unemployment Rates Up from Previous Month, Down from Last Year
Marshall County’s unemployment rate rose to 2.9 percent last month, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s three-tenths of a percent higher than the June figure, but lower than last July’s rate of 3.7 percent. The July employment report also shows that Marshall County’s labor force shrunk slightly.
Culver Town Council to Meet Tonight
The Culver Town Council will meet tonight where a few items will be discussed.
The council is expected to approve the second and third reading of a rezoning ordinance for 1213 Hoosier Lane and 1201 West Shore Drive. The ordinance that previously passed on first reading would change the zoning from Residential (R-1) to Lake District (L-1). This would combine two lots into one lot and grant lake access. A public hearing on the matter was held at the council’s last meeting with no comments given. The adoption of the ordinance is expected tonight.
Two Arrested on Meth Charges, After Marshall County Police Serve Felony Warrants
Two people face meth-related charges, after Marshall County Police attempted to serve two felony arrest warrants Friday. Officers say it happened just before 1:00 p.m. at a home in the 11100 block of 12th Road.
Plymouth City Council to Meet in Special Session Tonight

The Plymouth City Council will meet in special session tonight.
The members will discuss an ordinance regarding a municipal motor vehicle license excise surtax and a municipal wheel tax. The ordinance was called as first reading during the council’s regular session on Monday, Aug. 14. The ordinance would help gather funds for the construction and rehabilitation of roads and streets. It was suggested that implementing a wheel tax could take some relief off of other line items in the budget to help with other General Fund needs.
