A crash on U.S. 31 in Marshall County earlier this month has claimed a third life. Myles M. Brewer, 24, of North Judson has died from injuries sustained in the March 9 crash, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Police say they received word of the death Monday evening.
State Fire Marshal’s Office Assists Marshall County Sheriff’s Department With Suspicious Structure Fire Investigation
Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a call of a structure fire on 6th Road.
The 911 caller indicated that they were driving by when they observed a residence in the 11800 Block of 6th Road on fire. Road conditions are being blamed for a crash that sent two Plymouth residents to hospitals Tuesday morning. Marshall County Police say it happened shortly before 10:00 on Lincoln Highway east of Pioneer Drive.
Driver Dies from Injuries in Accident in Marshall County
The driver involved in a Friday night accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County that claimed the life of a Plymouth man has died from injuries sustained in that accident.
According to an update released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox passed away on Saturday after being transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend following the two-car accident.

According to police, 26-year-old Ricky L. Bradley of Plymouth was a passenger in a car driven by 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox when the Pontiac Grand Am they were traveling in entered the intersection. Webb reportedly failed to yield to the right-of-way of a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 32-year-old Terry Burgess of Elkhart. Police say Burgess’ vehicle hit the passenger side of Webb’s vehicle causing extensive damage.

An Indiana State Police drug investigation reportedly led to the discovery of suspected marijuana, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia at a Plymouth home. The Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Team served a search warrant at a home in the 600 block of Randolph Drive around 6:30 Wednesday morning.
Driver Reportedly Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Resulting in Two-Vehicle Accident Early Tuesday Morning
Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6th Maribel Sosa, of Bremen, was travelling eastbound on US 6 west of Douglas Road in a 2014 Honda CRV, when she reportedly fell asleep, crossed the center line and struck a 2016 International ProStar Semi driven by Jesse Manderson of Indianapolis.
According to Marshall County Police incident report, Sosa had to be cut from her vehicle by the Bremen Fire Department and she was transported to the Bremen Hospital by Lutheran EMS. Continue reading
Criminal Interdiction Patrol a Success
A criminal interdiction patrol on U.S. 30 and U.S. 31 on Friday, March 2 was deemed a success.
Police say the focus was to target criminal activity in Marshall, Kosciusko and St. Joseph Counties. In all, 49 vehicles were stopped where 21 tickets and 25 warnings were given to drivers. One commercial motor vehicle inspection was conducted, two vehicles were impounded, four people were arrested on nine different criminal charges, and one person was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance.

Plymouth Man Arrested after Speeding from Police
A Plymouth man was arrested early Saturday morning after speeding on U.S. 30 in Marshall County.
Marshall County police say 29-year-old Kyle Wickens was traveling at 97 mph near Gumwood Road when an officer initiated a traffic stop. The officer was trying to catch up to Wickens’ vehicle but Wickens reportedly increased his speed. According to the report, the officer traveled in excess of 125 mph close to King Road.

Marshall County Sheriff Announces Scholarship Opportunity
The Indiana Sheriff’s Association Scholarship Fund will be providing about $20,000 worth of assistance to Hoosier students looking to pursue a degree in criminal justice studies.
According to Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel, approximately forty $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.

South Bend Man Arrested in Alleged Bremen Battery Incident
A South Bend man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly battered two people at a residence in the 8,000 block of 5th Road in Bremen.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the scene and reportedly found that 39-year-old Justin M. Shonkwiler battered two people at the residence. Police say the homeowner shot a round from a handgun in order to scare Shonkwiler. The gun was allegedly aimed away from the suspect and others. Shonkwiler was not at the residence during the investigation.
