ISP Releases Updated Information on Fatal Accident on US 31

The preliminary investigation of the fatal two-vehicle crash on US 31 has been conducted.

On Sunday, May 13th around 2:45 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers from the Bremen Post responded to a crash between two vehicles. The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of US 31, near the 233-mile marker, just south of the US 6 interchange.

The preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Kevin Kubsch revealed that a black 2011 Nissan van driven by 46-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez Campos, of Indianapolis, was driving southbound when he was reportedly struck in a same-direction sideswipe by a black 2000 Jeep. Continue reading

Multiple Marshall County Police Forces Plan to Join the Click It-or-Ticket Summer Initiative

There were reportedly 10,428 unbuckled motorists killed in crashes in the U.S. in the year 2016. Seat-belts were estimated to save an additional 14,668 lives in that same year, according to a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office press release.

In order to keep community members safe, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Plymouth and Bremen Police Departments will be teaming up with law-enforcement agencies across the country to increase enforcement of seat-belt laws for the Click It-or-Ticket initiative. Continue reading

Police Respond to Property Damage Accident with Flaming Car, Reportedly Results in Drunk Driving Arrest

Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were called to the area of U.S. 6 and Pine Road for a property damage accident around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6th.

According to a police report, as officers arrived on the scene, they observed a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames off the roadway on the north side of the road. They checked the vehicle and found no occupants.

Police say they discovered that the driver, 25-year-old Travis James Weist, of Plymouth, had gotten out of the vehicle as the only occupant and was standing by at a residence off the road. Continue reading

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Hold Community Information Nights Later This Month

In order to connect with the community and showcase what the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department does, Sheriff Matt Hassel has invited citizens to attend some community information nights this month.

Bremen Resident Lodged in Marshall County Jail After Investigation Reportedly Reveals Years of Inappropriate Sexual Contact with Juveniles

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted an investigation of sexual abuse, resulting in the arrest of 51-year-old Bremen resident Lamar Kauffman on March 27th.

According to a police report issued by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, April 24th, an investigation apparently revealed that Kauffman had been having inappropriate sexual contact with juveniles over the span of several years. Continue reading

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Host Prescription Drug Take-Back Site This Saturday

According to a 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans have abused prescription drugs, with the majority of those medications obtained from the home medicine cabinet of friends or family members.

To help prevent drug addiction and potential overdose deaths, Sheriff Matt Hassel announced that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 15th Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th. Continue reading

Initial Hearing Held in Starke Circuit Court for Plymouth Teen Facing Multiple Felony Charges

A Plymouth man accused of rape, sexual misconduct with a minor, and child exploitation appeared in Starke Circuit Court Friday.

Court documents say that Thomas D. Holloway, who was 18 at the time, apparently took a group of juveniles to a residence in Starke County near Culver, on or around July 3, 2017.

There, he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old while she was “unaware that the sexual intercourse was occurring”, according to criminal information provided by Starke County Circuit Court. The minor was reportedly intoxicated at the time. Holloway is also accused of taking a picture and videos of the victim during the alleged incident. Continue reading

New Jersey Man Arrested after Alleged Battery Incident

A New Jersey man was arrested Tuesday morning after an alleged battery incident at the Pilot Truck Stop in Plymouth.

According to a report from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was assaulted with a hammer stemming from a road rage incident near Valparaiso. The victim reportedly refused medical treatment despite injuries sustained in the battery.
