It’s hard to believe the time has already arrived, but the Marshall County Clerk’s office says it will begin accepting applications from candidates seeking political office.
Argos Re-Votes Following Alleged Open Door Violation
The Town of Argos has corrected an error in the election of one of its Town Council members.
Earlier this year, the Argos Town Council was required to break a tie for one of its three available Town Council seats. The tie for the final available seat was certified after Election Day by the Marshall County Election Board.
Argos to Hold Tie-Breaker Vote Following Alleged Secret Ballot Violation
The Town of Argos plans to re-do a vote taken last month to determine who fills a vacancy on its Town Council.
During their November 18th meeting, the Argos Town Council took a vote to break a tie between incumbent Dustin Johnson (D) and Randy Snead (R) following the General Municipal Election. The Marshall County Clerk’s office notified the town of the need to break the tie after certifying that one had indeed taken place.

Marshall County Sees Hundreds of Absentee Ballots Cast
Caucus To Take Place for Marshall County Council Seat
Plans are now being laid for a new caucus in Marshall County following the resignation of Council President Matt Hassel.
The resignation follows Hassel’s election as Marshall County Sheriff on Tuesday night. His swearing-in took place on Wednesday. Prior to being able to officially serve as Sheriff, Hassel was required under state statute to first leave his post on the Council.

Four Nominees Vying for Marshall County Sheriff
Four names have filed with the Marshall County Clerk’s office to seek the office of Sheriff in Marshall County.
The Republican Party plans to caucus on September 29th to make its selection for the office. A vacancy was opened following the death of Tom Chamberlin – who had an extended battle with cancer.
Time Needed Before Sheriff Vacancy Filled
A bit of time will likely pass before a replacement is found for Sheriff Tom Chamberlin.
He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and, after a battle, passed away at his home near family on Friday. He was most recently elected Sheriff in November of 2014.

Communities hosting Town Conventions had a state deadline of August 3rd. Parties with more than one candidate for office will now decide which candidate represents the party heading into November’s General Election.

According to information released by the Marshall County Clerk’s office, several Towns have competitive races – while others simply have candidates registered.
Some Offices Closed on Election Day
Most establishments plan to operate as normal, but a few offices are closed on Tuesday.
The Municipal Primary Election in Starke and Marshall Counties is being held on May 5th. The Starke County Courthouse plans to be open during the primary, but City Hall in Knox will be closed for the day.
