Time Needed Before Sheriff Vacancy Filled

A bit of time will likely pass before a replacement is found for Sheriff Tom Chamberlin.

He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and, after a battle, passed away at his home near family on Friday. He was most recently elected Sheriff in November of 2014.

One Marshall County Council member said community grieving should be allowed to take place before additional decisions are made for finding a replacement. Funeral services for Sheriff Chamberlin will be held on Thursday of this week.

According to information provided by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the vacancy must be filled within 30 days from the passing.

Chamberlin was registered as a Republican candidate for the Sheriff’s office. A replacement to fill that office will now be selected through a caucus of the Republican Party in Marshall County.

The County will be closing all offices on Thursday, September 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to allow employees time to attend Chamberlin’s funeral services.
