Mayor Mark Senter asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night to rescind the two-hour parking restriction on Water Street between Garro and Washington Streets.
Plymouth School Board Approves Documents for Aquatics Center
The Plymouth Community School Corporation has officially agreed to be part of the city’s new Aquatics Center. The project is a collaboration involving several entities, with funding from a number of sources. Once it’s complete, it will be shared by the swim teams from Plymouth High School and Ancilla College, along with the general public.

Plymouth BOW, City Council to Meet Tonight
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members plan on opening bids for surface treatment spring projects and street and sidewalk projects when they meet tonight. The board members will also consider a conditional offer of employment for a paramedic position and a request to release partial retainage funds for Kokosing Industrial for work done on the wastewater treatment facility.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. tonight followed by the Plymouth City Council meeting.
User Fee Schedule Subcommittee Still Reviewing Reports
The City of Plymouth User Fee Schedule Subcommittee members are reviewing department reports before bringing a recommendation for proposed user fee rate changes at an upcoming meeting.
Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter told the Plymouth City Council members that he is waiting on information from the police department and the fire department. Those statistics are expected on Wednesday so the subcommittee can formulate a plan to proceed.
Plymouth Street Superintendent Announces Completion of Safe Routes to School Project, Opens Bids for 2018 Fuel and Street Supplies
Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt alerted members of the Board of Public Works and Safety that all work on the Safe Routes to School project has officially been completed.
Marquardt explained the final step was to receive board approval and get the Mayor’s signature on the project. Board members unanimously approved his request to finalize the Safe Routes to School project.
Additionally, Marquardt opened bids for 2018 fuel and street supplies. The city received two bids for fuel supplies. Continue reading
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council to Meet Tonight
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members will open bids for 2018 fuel and street supplies when they meet tonight at 6 p.m. ET. The City Engineer is scheduled to discuss 2017 Community Crossing Matching Grant Project contracts. Reports will be presented from various department heads, the City Attorney and the Secretary and Finance Officer. Mayor Mark Senter will also provide board members with a report.
Additional business includes a discussion over traffic on Plum Street and accepting November 2017 reports from the Water and Wastewater departments.
At 6:30 p.m., or immediately following the first meeting, Plymouth City Council members will convene. Members will first address any unfinished business including any tabled ordinances, resolutions or other items. Continue reading

This Saturday, Plymouth Has Plenty of Ways to Get You into the Halloween Spirit
This Saturday, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce is hosting an event that will supply sugary sweets to costumed kiddos a few days before Halloween. Downtown Trick-or-Treat will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. Michigan Street will be closed between Laporte Street and Washington Street from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Pilot News is hosting a costume contest starting at noon and MAX 98.3 will be on the site at 214 N Michigan Street doing a live remote describing the spooky scene.

Join Mayor Mark Senter’s Effort to Help Save Local Lives
Mayor of Plymouth Mark Senter will be hosting a blood drive today at the Plymouth Farmer’s Market from 8 a.m. until noon. All blood donated will remain within the community and could potentially save up to three local lives.

Municipal Excise Surtax, Wheel Tax Ordinance Dies
A proposed ordinance that would help raise revenue for the construction and rehabilitation of roads and streets within the City of Plymouth died for a lack of a motion Monday night.
The Plymouth City Council members held a public hearing on a municipal excise surtax and municipal wheel tax ordinance earlier this month and called a first reading on the ordinance. The ordinance was up for second reading during a specially-called meeting last week during budget discussions. It was tabled and brought up for discussion on Monday night.
Thomas Chamberlin Memorial Bridge Unveiled Friday Afternoon
The sun was shining down on Michigan Street in Plymouth Friday as Marshall County residents gathered together to celebrate the memory of former sheriff Tom Chamberlin with a bridge dedication in his honor.

Traffic Study Planned on Two Intersections
Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul will be working with Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) to conduct a traffic study Columbus Drive and Baker Street.
Gaul said MACOG officials will help determine if the intersection is in need of a traffic flow change.
Plymouth Police Chief Addresses Traffic Flow around Lincoln Jr. High School
Plymouth City Police Chief David Bacon presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members with a solution to a traffic flow issue on school days around the Lincoln Jr. High School.
Chief Bacon said Mayor Mark Senter and City Attorney Sean Surrisi met with the Director of Safety and Security and the Transportation Director from the school corporation to address traffic issues. He said traffic gets snarled around the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up portions of the school day at Lincoln Jr. High School.
“Traffic gets backed up on Gibson onto Liberty so we looked at ways to remedy that,” said Chief Bacon. “One solution is no parking on the south side of Gibson from Liberty Street to the circle drive. That will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days only.”
Plymouth City Council Discusses Wetland Mitigation Easement
The Plymouth City Council received paperwork concerning Marshall County’s wetland mitigation project and easement. The plan has also been presented to the Plymouth Park Board for approval.
The wetlands area is located at the end of Plum Street and Walnut by the river. The area is part of the county’s Hickory Road bridge project.
Steve Knies from DLZ said the plan includes the planting of trees along with shrubs native to that area. The plan includes a list of over 1,000 native grasses and other vegetation that is included there.
Prayer Breakfast Scheduled in Plymouth
The local observance of the National Day of Prayer is set for Thursday, May 4.
Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter welcomes Bishop Kevin Rhoades as the keynote speaker for the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast set for May 4 at 6:30 a.m. at the Christos Banquet Center at 830 Lincolnway East in Plymouth.
Rhoades has served as Bishop of the Diocese of Fort-Wayne South Bend since 2010.
