Officials Break Ground for Runway Project

The Plymouth Board of Aviation Commissioners, project engineers and city dignitaries, helped break ground on a $2.5 million runway project at the Plymouth Airport last night.

Mark Shillington, the project manager, and engineer, says the Indiana Department of Transportation Office of Aviation found that the runway did not meet minimum standards for service in a pavement condition report.

“They gave us the indication that they would support us going for federal funds to repave the runway,” said Shillington. “Because of the soils underneath the runway, we have to go through and dig up the entire runway and work underneath it as well.”

Plymouth Chamber Conducting Jack Greenlee Memorial Food Drive

The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce is collecting items for a local food pantry in memory of a late public servant. Jack Greenleee died last month at the age of 85. He served as mayor from 1992-2000. Greenlee is credited with establishing the Annual Prayer Breakfast and Christmas Parade. He also served on the county board and city council. Mayor Mark Senter recently presented Greenlee a Key to the City. Continue reading

Officials Break Ground for Freedom Park

Children with physical disabilities will soon have a playground to call their very own.

Plymouth City officials and project representatives were among two dozen people to witness the groundbreaking event for Freedom Park Tuesday afternoon.

Freedom Park Project Co-Chair Tony Gamble has a son with a disability and Tuesday’s event presented a very special moment for him. He said the park system in Plymouth is great, but there just isn’t the infrastructure available for his son to enjoy playing at a playground.

Funeral Services Tomorrow for Former Plymouth Mayor

Former Plymouth Mayor Jack Greenlee will be laid to rest tomorrow. He died Monday at his Rex Street home. Greenlee was 85. He served as mayor from 1992-2000. He’s credited with establishing the Annual Prayer Breakfast and Christmas Parade. He also served on the county board and city council. Mayor Mark Senter recently presented Greenlee a Key to the City. Many regard him as Plymouth’s biggest cheerleader. Continue reading

Plymouth Airport Receives $2.2 Million FAA Grant

The Plymouth Airport will get a wider runway and more improvements thanks to an FAA grant worth $2.2 million. Matching funds from the city and state of $126,805 each brings the total to a little over $2.5 million.

Mayor Mark Senter said the project has been in the works for many years but the current infrastructure needed to be upgraded before the runway could be restructured.

“We had buildings here in awful shape,” explained Mayor Senter. There were garage doors that would barely open, roofs that leaked, dimly lit hangers with airplanes that shivered in the cold winter, cracked sidewalks, an office area styled for the 1970s, and a pilot’s lounge that was indescribable. Let’s fix what we have first, then we can start talking about a mile-long runway.”
