Plymouth City Council Discusses Salary Ordinance for Elected Officials

Plymouth City Council member Don Ecker, Jr. asked Mayor Mark Senter and Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver this week why they aren’t getting raises in the 2018 salary ordinance.

Mayor Senter said he thought it was the right thing to do.

“Things have not gone the way a city or a town wishes they would with our number one and number four customers of water and wastewater that we lost,” said Mayor Senter. “One-third of our salary comes from utilities and I don’t think its right us asking for a pay increase.”

Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said the mayor talked to her about it and she agreed.

The increase for the elected officials was not included in a recent review of wages for employees. Ecker, Jr. noted that the review committee was focused on the employees and not elected officials. He said the mayor and clerk-treasurer were initially poised to receive a substantial pay increase which was amended later and eventually withdrawn.

The Plymouth City Council approved the salary ordinance as presented on second and third reading.
