New Prairie High School Placed on Lockdown After Bullet Located

A LaPorte County school was placed on lockdown earlier today after a student located a bullet on a classroom floor.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. at New Prairie High School. The student who located the bullet notified the principal. A search of all lockers in the building, along with book bags that had been in the classroom where the bullet was found was conducted.

Ancilla Student Uses Skills in Woodworking and Business

One Ancilla College student is combining their education with a bit of woodworking skill.

Sophomore Andrew Huff will begin selling long boards at Culver Marina and Outpost Sports in the near future. Under his company: Huff & Puff Board Co., he uses reclaimed wood to manufacturing the devices. Long boards function similarly to a skateboard, but the extra length provides greater traction and stability.

CNA Classes Upcoming at Ancilla College

A new semester at area schools is bringing another opportunity to meet qualifications to become a Certified Nursing Assistant at Ancilla College.

Ancilla is offering the CNA courses beginning February 2nd, but spots are still available for those interested. CNA’s have opportunities to work in long-term care, in home, hospitals, and doctors’ office facilities in the workforce.

Area Schools Could Benefit From Community College Proposal

Ivy Tech Community College says they may become more accessible if one of President Barack Obama’s proposals makes it through Congress.

The President announced last week his intent to significantly reduce the cost of attending community college. The multi-billion dollar program intends to largely pay for the cost of the first two years of tuition for students maintaining a certain grade point average. This could have implications locally.
