Ancilla College Offers Winter Term Course
The first winter semester course offering at Ancilla College begins today. The four-week introduction to psychology course is offered entirely online and is available to students at any college or university. Ancilla President Dr. Ken Zirkle says the credits are fully transferable to other colleges or universities. He adds taking a course during what is traditionally an off time academically can help students retain their athletic eligibility and meet the minimum standards for financial aid offerings. Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today
The Marshall County Commissioners will meet this morning with several business items up for discussion.
Joe Edwards with SRI, Inc. will appear to explain the process of a certificate sale. Treasurer Deb Vandemark told the commissioners previously that several properties have not sold in the county’s tax sale that have been up for sale for many years. The certificate sale would be a way to get the properties back on the tax rolls.
Culver Superintendent’s Contract on Tonight’s School Board Agenda
The Culver Community School Board will vote tonight on a new contract for Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire. It carries a base salary of $95,000 plus benefits, which include insurance for the superintendent and family members. Continue reading
Plymouth High School Hosts John Oliver Speech Invitational Tournament

Culver Relay for Life Kickoff Gets Under Way Tonight
Culver’s annual Relay for Life Kickoff fundraiser for the American Cancer Society gets under way this evening at 7 p.m. EST at the Steinbrenner Recreation Center at Culver Military Academy. Debbie Foersch is in charge of the fundraising.
“For us kickoff is an opportunity to energize and motivate the community on teaching them what relay is and understanding that cancer doesn’t sleep so we won’t sleep at relay. We want people to be touched by our mission moments so it’s really a year round event and not just the one night event,” said Foersch.
Foersch says 12 teams have already signed up for this spring’s Relay for Life event. She hopes 13 more will register by the end of the weekend. Between now and the April 10th Relay she’d like to see 75 teams raise $100,000 for cancer research.
Tonight’s family-oriented event will feature games, giveaways and prizes. Cancer survivors in attendance will also be recognized. Activities will conclude at 9 p.m.
Ancilla College Announces Plans to Add Campus Housing
Ancilla College officials hope the addition of the school’s first residence hall will draw students from beyond the immediate vicinity to the state’s only private, two-year college. It will open in the fall of 2015, according to a news release. Preliminary plans include housing for 100 new students and a live-in dean and student services director. Floor plans are being drawn now to possibly include a teaching kitchen for a new hospitality/culinary program. School officials say artist’s renderings are being finalized, and a groundbreaking is tentatively planned in March.
Sprint Reimbursement Enables Marshall County EMA Equipment Purchase

Culver Fiber Optic Cables Will Be Repaired
AT&T fiber optic cables along Lake Shore Drive between State and Main Streets in Culver need to be repaired. Dave Ferguson from Ferguson Michiana, the area AT&T contractor, appeared before the Culver Town Council Tuesday night and explained that the current cables were installed underground in clay tiles. Ancilla Announces Next CNA Class
Prospective Certified Nursing Assistant Students can register now for a spring semester course at Ancilla College. Applicants must pass a physical, a drug screen and a background check. A high school diploma is not required for this course.

Marshall County Council Approves Annual Tourism Budget
The Marshall County Council yesterday approved the 2015 Convention and Visitors Bureau budget. CVB Executive Director Corey Hume says the $340,450 budget is similar to this year’s. Of that amount, $187,000 will be used solely for tourism advertising. Continue reading
Marshall County Council to Review CVB Budget
The Marshall County Council will review the annual Convention and Visitors Bureau budget when they meet this morning. Other agenda items include various requests for transfers and appropriations in order to close the year out in the black. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. EST on the second floor of the Marshall County building.
Culver Community Middle School Wants Trip to Kings Island
The Culver Community Middle School recently raised money to help the 8th grade students go on an end of the year field trip to Kings Island. Both 7th and 8th grade students from the middle school participated in a Nov. 21 lock-in with games and food. Middle and high school Principal Brett Berndt says the evening’s activities raised about $845 toward the goal. He says additional fundraisers will be held to raise the rest of the money for the trip.
Hoosier Lottery Adds Sunday Drawings
The Hoosier Lottery is adding three new drawings. Starting tomorrow, midday drawings will take place each Sunday for the Daily 3, Daily 4 and Quick Draw games. Currently, midday drawings for all three games are conducted Monday through Saturday. The Sunday drawing schedule will match the existing schedule for Monday through Saturday drawings.
