Street reconstruction work as part of the city of Plymouth’s mill and fill projects is set to begin today. Workers are scheduled to sawcut six driveways and remove curb in the cul-de-sac on Marigold Court. Concrete curb construction will start tomorrow. During that time, residents will have access to their driveways except for a few days when the concrete is curing. Notes will be placed in the mailboxes of affected residents. Continue reading
The first week of August marks a very important week of recognition for mothers in America. August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week. The Indiana State Department of Health lists breastfeeding as not only healthy to the infant but mentions the benefits for the mother as well. The theme this year is “Breastfeeding and Work: Let’s Make it Work.” All around the world, advocates for families are calling for action to support women in being able to combine breastfeeding and work. Indiana must now wait following a formal request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture asking for a Disaster Declaration.
Governor Mike Pence sent the letter – which states 53 of Indiana’s 92 counties are in need of assistance due to rains and flooding that damaged crops across the Hoosier State. Indiana experienced record rainfall in June of this year, with the first half of July showing strong precipitation in the immediate area.

The Department of Natural Resources had to restrict motorboat traffic from certain public freshwater lakes in Northern Indian due to the abundance of summer storms. The DNR created a web page with boating advisories to keep boating public and lakefront property owners informed of current restrictions or closures. Continue reading

It has been about a year since her initial visit to the area to gather information and inspiration for her novel “No Place to Hide”. The Marshall County DUI Task Force conducted DUI checkpoints on Friday evening.
The Task Force is made up of law enforcement from the Sheriff’s Department, and Bourbon, Bremen, Culver, and Plymouth Police Departments – who are working to decrease impaired driving.
The warm streak in July has been somewhat welcome in area farm fields.
That’s according to Purdue Extension Agricultural Educator Phil Woolery. He says warming temperatures and a lack of precipitation in the area the second half of July has allowed time for soil to dry. That follows what is considered a record breaking year for moisture in June.

Students new to the Argos School Corporation will have a chance to get situated in early August.
The Guidance Department is hosting a New Student Orientation to help students entering Argos Junior and Senior High School for the first time. That means students in 7th through 12th grade can play games, and participate in a variety of activities.
The student meal cost for breakfast and lunch at all Plymouth Community Schools will remain the same as last year. Breakfast is offered daily and costs $1.10 for all students. Lunch costs vary depending on grades. For students in Kindergarten or grades first through sixth lunch is $1.85. For students in seventh grade and higher lunch will cost $1.95. Continue reading

The candidate list is inching closer to finalization for Towns hosting conventions in Marshall County.
According to information released by the Marshall County Clerk’s office, several Towns have competitive races – while others simply have candidates registered.
Gateway signage for the City of Plymouth will be moved slightly.
During a meeting last month, the Plymouth Board of Works approved a memorandum of understanding with Marshall County to place a sign welcoming visitors to Plymouth in the roundabout at Michigan Road and Veteran’s Parkway.

A new program is being launched by the Plymouth Community School Corporation that allows students and staff to submit anonymous tips to law enforcement online. The tips will be directly delivered to Corporal Bridget Hite, the student resource officer and current member of the Plymouth Police Department. Continue reading
The Town of Culver has authorized work to its storm water system, but it’s going to take a bit of financing to complete.
During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, two resolutions were considered to help move the work along. Financing monies would be used to improve the storm water utility system.

A Kewanna woman has been arrested following reports that she stole items from a purse at a Wendy’s location in Plymouth.
Officers were called to the fast-food restaurant location around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, but located the suspect in the bathroom. One officer addressed the perpetrator, identified as 37-year-old Anna Price, while the other made contact with the victim.
A two vehicle crash on US 30 in Marshall County resulted in the loss of payload.
According to information released by Marshall County Police, a Semi carrying a flatbed trailer, and driven by Thomas Prairie of Bourbonnais, Illinois was stopped at a red light at the intersection of US 30 and Queen Road. When the light turned green, the semi-trailer began to accelerate.
The Culver Town Council has taken an additional step to establish the Town’s own EMS Department.
Council members have worked for months to improve emergency medical services by moving the Culver-Union Township EMS Department, which is volunteer-based, to a Town service.
