Police Respond to Possible Burglary, Reportedly Find Meth, Pills Instead

A report of a possible burglary reportedly led to the discovery of methamphetamine Sunday morning. Starke County Police say they, along with Hamlet and Walkerton police, responded to a possible burglary in progress call at around 6:30 a.m. Officers say that when they got there, they determined that no burglary took place, but they did find methamphetamine, prescription pills, syringes, and paraphernalia.

Wanted Minnesota Residents Lead Police on Chase through Marshall County

Two Minnesota residents with active warrants reportedly led police on a chase through Marshall County Tuesday evening. It began when a Plymouth Police officer pulled over a car in the 2200 block of North Michigan Street at around 5:15. Police say the driver, Ace Blahoski, 31, of Miltona, Minnesota and the passenger, Jean Kelly, 33, of Willmar, Minnesota both had warrants out of Minnesota.

Koontz Lake Fire Department Rescue Vehicle Involved in Crash While Responding to Fatal Accident

Thursday’s fatal crash in Marshall County led to a second accident involving a Koontz Lake Fire Department rescue vehicle. The initial crash happened in the area of U.S. 6 and Quince Road just before 1:00 p.m., when Marshall County Police say a Chevy flatbed truck tried to pass a Buick Century that was about to turn left. The driver of the Buick, Judith Masterson, 69, of Plymouth, eventually died from her injuries.

Two-Vehicle Accident in Marshall County Results in One Fatality

Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal accident in the area of US 6 and Quince Road.

According to the crash report, 74-year-old Philip Braun was driving a white Chevy flatbed truck behind 69-year-old Judith Masterson who was traveling in a silver Buick Century. They were both going westbound on US 6. Continue reading

John Glenn School Officials to Review Traffic Flow

Officials from the John Glenn School Corporation will be reviewing traffic flow specifically during dismissal times at all three Walkerton schools.

Superintendent Richard Reese told the John Glenn School Board Tuesday night that parents waiting to pick up their children from school are often causing a traffic flow issue as cars line the streets. The pattern often affects the way the buses enter and exit the schools as they transport students home from school.

Nappanee Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are looking into a motorcycle accident that occurred just before 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say Daniel Meyer was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson on U.S. 6 just west of Union Road when he lost control in the curve. He then crossed the westbound lanes and left the roadway on the north side of the highway, according to the report. Meyer was airlifted to Memorial Hospital with head trauma.
