Argos School Board Approves Student Fees for Next School Year

Argos school board members approved student fees for the 2018-2019 school year when they met Monday night, according to Superintendent Ned Speicher.

“Kindergarten through second grade is $180 and for grades three to six, it would be $195 and grades seven and eight would be $195.” Speicher explained, “High school would be $220 and then college-level courses that are taught at the high school would have additional fees per each college class.” Continue reading

Argos School Board Permits Out-of-District Students to Enroll, Establishes Transfer Deadline

In the state of Indiana, school corporations are required to submit a notice to the Department of Education if they plan to accept out-of-district students.

Argos Superintendent Ned Speicher reported that when school board members met Monday night, they voted to allow out-of-district students and established that transfer requests can be submitted anytime between June 1st and September 1st. Continue reading

Argos Students and Teachers to Receive New Technology Devices

Argos School Board members approved the purchase of new technology devices for 2018 through 2022 when they met Monday evening.

Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that that school corporation’s current technology lease was up so officials chose to purchase some new devices for students at every grade level as well as computers for teachers to help guide instruction. Continue reading

Highly Qualified Foreign Language Teacher Hired During Argos School Board Meeting

One of the major highlights of Monday night’s Argos School Board meeting was the addition of a new teacher for the Foreign Language department at the high school, according to Superintendent Ned Speicher.

“We hired a new highly qualified French and Spanish teacher starting in the 2018-2019 school year.” Superintendent Speicher noted, “We’re very happy to have a young lady by the name of Heather Harter come on board to teach these subjects for us next year.” Continue reading

Argos School Board Members Address A Few Different Summer-Related Items

Argos School Board members made a few decisions related to summer projects and scheduling when they met Monday night.

Board members approved summer hours for faculty, setting up a 4-day work week schedule for all staff except for summer school teachers. Special Session Held by Argos School Board Friday Morning

The Argos School Board met for a special session Friday morning in order to discuss a few matters that needed to be addressed prior to their regular meeting on March 19th.

Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the first item on the agenda was the consideration of a resolution, “We had a resolution to continue the process to transition from an appointed school board to an elected school board and this is just the next step to get approval from the state of Indiana and our goal will be to have this set so that at the November 6th general election in 2018, we’ll be ready to have the first election for school board members.” Continue reading

Argos Superintendent Discusses AP Success with School Board

At the Argos School Board meeting last Monday, Superintendent Ned Speicher mentioned the AP Classes and AP Success stipends while discussing accomplishments from the 2017-2018 school year.

The AP stipends were included as a part of this year’s negotiated master contract, along with stipends for Academic Needs and Master Degrees in Reading or Literacy.

Argos School Board Retains Existing Officers

The Argos School Board handled start-of-the-year reorganization and appointments when they met Monday night.

According to Administrative Assistant Patti VanDerWeele, the board members voted to retain existing officers since they were named in July. Monty Peden, Doug Middleton and Jennifer Hurford were elected to the President, Vice-President and the Secretary positions, respectively. Continue reading

Argos School Board Approves Contracts and Additional Appropriation

When the Argos School Board met last week Superintendent Ned Speicher presented the board with a review of the potential reimbursements allowed to the general fund for the past five years. He said that $200,000 worth of funds have been collected through various education sales over the years and up until now it has been in a savings account.

In order for that money to be spent, it had to be transferred from savings to checking. However, Superintendent Speicher mentioned that the money most likely won’t be used but it’s good to have it available, should the need arise. The board unanimously approved the additional appropriation to be added to the 2017 general fund. Continue reading
