Indiana Department of Education to Approve Argos School Board Resolution

It will be up to the Indiana Department of Education to approve a resolution by the Argos School Board to change the method of how the school board is selected.

The Argos School Board is currently appointed, but the school board met with petitioners and agreed to become an elected school board with three positions up for election on the General Election ballot this year in Marshall County. Two other positions would be on the General Election ballot in 2020.

Two at-large positions and seat to be filled by a Town of Argos resident will be decided upon in the upcoming election.

The Marshall County Election Board members reviewed the resolution regarding the action on Friday morning. No further action was taken as it was for informational purposes only.

A decision on the resolution should be made by the Department of Education by Aug. 1. After that decision is made, the three seats will be included on the Marshall County General Election ballot. Candidates may not file for the seats prior to the Aug. 1 decision. Following Aug. 1, candidates have until Aug. 24 at noon to file in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office.
