The Argos Community School Corporation received about $18,720 from the 2018 Teacher Appreciation Grant administered through the Indiana Department of Education.
Superintendent Ned Speicher noted that the grant amount is based on the way students performed on the ISTEP test and the growth that was measured. The funds are distributed to the teachers who received an effective or highly effective rating on their evaluations. Continue reading

Students at the Argos Elementary School recently completed a philanthropic effort that will benefit first responders, active service members and veterans while a group at the high school tackled a project that will assist children from countries in need.
In a social media post, a school representative mentioned that the Elementary School’s candy drive was a major success. The students and staff members there were able to collect enough candy to fill 8 boxes. Continue reading
Students and staff at Argos Elementary School are collecting sweet treats to donate to ‘Operation Gratitude.’
Now through Thursday, November 8th they’ll be collecting leftover Halloween candy. Once the collection ends, school officials will provide all the candy to Operation Gratitude and it will be included care packages that will be sent to veterans, first responders and military personnel and their families. Efforts to bring a School Resource Officer into the Argos Community School Corporation continue to move forward.
Town Council members provided their support for the idea when they met earlier this month. School Superintendent Ned Speicher said that School Board members considered the matter at their meeting on Monday.
Speicher explained, “The school board did the same thing, they had a motion and approved stating that they’d work on the concept of having a School Resource Officer.” Continue reading

Visitors traveling to Argos will soon have an easier time finding their way around town with the help of some signage that will be installed in the near future.
The town’s electrical services provider, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA), has offered to pay 75 percent of the purchase and installation cost for more than ten new way-finding signs, according to Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney. Continue reading

In an effort to combat drug and alcohol misuse, Drug Free Marshall County awarded more than $62,820 to area schools, criminal justice agencies and local treatment providers.
Drug Free Marshall County is a citizen board established in conjunction with the Governor’s Task Force on Enforcement, Treatment and Prevention. Funding is received through court-ordered fines from individuals who are convicted of drug and alcohol offenses in Marshall County. Continue reading
As we enter the final week of National Reading Month, parents are reminded to be a part of their child’s reading regimen to help instill a love for books at an early age.

One tip encourages parents to take their children book browsing. This can be done online from home, in a bookstore or at the local library. At the Argos School Board meeting last Monday, Superintendent Ned Speicher mentioned the AP Classes and AP Success stipends while discussing accomplishments from the 2017-2018 school year.
The AP stipends were included as a part of this year’s negotiated master contract, along with stipends for Academic Needs and Master Degrees in Reading or Literacy.
Another topic discussed at last week’s Argos School Board meeting was the corporation’s distinction as one of the College Board Top AP Schools. Continue reading
The Argos School Board handled start-of-the-year reorganization and appointments when they met Monday night.
According to Administrative Assistant Patti VanDerWeele, the board members voted to retain existing officers since they were named in July. Monty Peden, Doug Middleton and Jennifer Hurford were elected to the President, Vice-President and the Secretary positions, respectively. Continue reading
The Marshall County Council members discussed an additional appropriation request from the Argos Community School Corporation this week.
Argos Community School Corporation Director of Business Services Jennifer Lee explained that the money will be used for General Fund purposes.
“We just want to make sure we have the permission to spend throughout the year,” said Lee. “We have the money we just need permission to spend it if we need it to cover salaries and basic General Fund expenses.” Continue reading
Some local school corporations saw their letter grades improve slightly, while others remained flat. On Wednesday, the Indiana State Board of Education finalized the A-to-F grades for each of the state’s school corporations for the 2016-2017 school year.
Last Monday, the Argos School Board received a report from architect Greg Drennan of LWC, Inc following a recent building and site review.
Drennan and representatives from the architecture firm recently conducted a walk thru and assessment of the school’s facility. Drennan reported that while looking at the general condition of the building and sites, there were no major issues found. Continue reading
