Marshall County Council Approves Additional Appropriation for Argos Schools

The Marshall County Council members discussed an additional appropriation request from the Argos Community School Corporation this week.

Argos Community School Corporation Director of Business Services Jennifer Lee explained that the money will be used for General Fund purposes.

“We just want to make sure we have the permission to spend throughout the year,” said Lee. “We have the money we just need permission to spend it if we need it to cover salaries and basic General Fund expenses.”

Lee said the total appropriation amount of $200,000 is more than what is budgeted for the calendar year.

“With our recent 2017 bond issue, part of that was a refunding of General Fund expenses that could have been capital fund expenditures. We were able to refund our General Fund. That is a process that our superintendent (Ned Speicher) is working on to help us supplement what we get from the state. That 2017 bond money is going to hopefully last us several years to help supplement the General Fund.”

With the Argos Community School Board’s approval of this additional appropriation request and its legal advertisement, the county council unanimously approved the request.
