Drug Free Marshall County Awards Over $62,000 in Grant Funding to Local Schools, Law Enforcement & Treatment Providers

In an effort to combat drug and alcohol misuse, Drug Free Marshall County awarded more than $62,820 to area schools, criminal justice agencies and local treatment providers.

Drug Free Marshall County is a citizen board established in conjunction with the Governor’s Task Force on Enforcement, Treatment and Prevention. Funding is received through court-ordered fines from individuals who are convicted of drug and alcohol offenses in Marshall County.

To assist with drug testing in schools, five local school corporations were provided with grant funds. Triton Schools received $1,600, Bremen Schools were awarded $2,880, Argos Schools got a total of $2,422.50, LaVille Schools received $3,017.50 and $3,500 in grant funding was awarded to Plymouth Schools.

The Plymouth Parks Department was awarded $700 to provide drug and alcohol education during their Summer Camp and DARE of Marshall County received $2,000 to assist with annual funding for all schools in the county.

In order to aid in drug and alcohol education and prevention, the organization provided funds to local law enforcement agencies. The Marshall County Drug Task Force received $2,700 for equipment and Marshall County Probation received $4,500 for drug testing. The Plymouth Police Department K9 unit received $5,500 to assist with the purchase of a new K9 and equipment and the Bremen Police Department was awarded $7,000 for drug interdiction training.

To help offset the cost of providing substance abuse treatment three local treatment providers were awarded money from the organization. A total of $7,000 went to the Bowen Center, Eric Fosters, Inc received $10,000 and A New Direction was awarded $11,000.

The group’s meeting are open to the public and are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office at 1400 Pioneer Dr. in Plymouth.
