The New Argos School Resource Officer Starts Today

The School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Argos Community School Corporation will start his new job today.

Police Officer Dave Carrell was approved for the position.

He completed an SRO training course in order to understand the role and functions of the job as well as to gain insight into the protocol for interacting with students, faculty and administrators.

For the past several months, officials have been working diligently to iron out the details associated with this new dual purpose law enforcement position. Officer Carrell will continue to serve as a member of the Argos police force when the school corporation does not require his services during certain times of the year.

The SRO wage is being partially funded through a Homeland Security Matching Grant and a financial commitment from the Town of Argos. Superintendent Ned Speicher noted that the Homeland Security funds amount to about $35,000 and the year-long grant can be renewed.
