Plans for road maintenance in the City of Plymouth will be considered during tonight’s board of works meeting. Earlier this month, City Engineer Rick Gaul gave board members a preliminary version of a pavement asset management plan. Tonight, he’ll present the final plan for 2017, as well as a five-year plan.

The commissioners decided to form a committee to determine what uses could fill the Shady Rest Home facility once it is handed back to the county on Aug. 1. The Bowen Center made the decision to cease operations there after some of the new regulations didn’t fit the facility’s needs.

Marshall County residents had another chance to weigh in on a proposed tax hike Thursday. Back in April, the county commissioners voted to reestablish the Cumulative Capital Development Fund at its maximum rate. But the Department of Local Government Finance held a public hearing of its own Thursday, after residents appealed the decision.

The Plymouth City Building renovation is another step closer to getting underway. A lease agreement was approved this week by both the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission and a newly-organized Redevelopment Authority, according to Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver.

Funeral arrangements are set for the two teenagers killed Monday in a multiple-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 in Kosciusko County.
Investigators there say a 2004 Mitsubishi driven by 17-year-old Kirsten Ganshorn of Walkerton was passing a 2011 Ford F150 and clipped it. The impact sent both vehicles into the median. The pickup truck driver steered back onto the roadway, but Ganshorn’s car spun out, crossed the median backwards and hit the front of a 2007 Chevrolet flatbed truck. Continue reading
