Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library Director Traci Stewart said that ground breaking at the site for the new library took place earlier this month. However, in the next few weeks, construction will become more visible since work below the surface has been completed and now crews can begin working on things above ground.
Stewart said that foundation footings have already been installed, as well as drainage lines and a sewage system. She said this week, construction crews from the Elkhart based company Brown and Brown will be pouring the floors and putting up walls. Continue reading

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety will meet tonight where Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson will present a change order for the Richter Road project. The change order should officially complete the project that includes better connectivity by looping the water connections from Baker Street down to Richter Road and then reconnecting at Jefferson and Warana. The board approved a request at the last meeting to hold a retainer of $6,230.25 upon the punchlist items and those items should now be complete.

Two Marshall County natives are among the 33 new Indiana State Police troopers sworn in this week. Benjamin A. Beers of Plymouth and Timothy G. Borsa of Bourbon officially graduated from the State Police Recruit Academy during a ceremony at the State Capitol Thursday. It marked the end of 24 weeks of training in criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, firearms, and a bunch of other modern policing subjects, according to ISP officials.

The Marshall County Highway Department has completed several miles of paving this year along with berming, pug mill operations, pothole repairs, chip and sealing operations and double chip and sealing operations. With all of that activity, Highway Administrator Laurie Baker says the highway department is seeing a bit of a revenue bump this year.

A South Bend man who was found guilty of armed robbery in a two-day trial in June in Marshall County was sentenced by Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 Judge Robert O. Bowen on Wednesday to nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended.
