HIS Small Wonders Pre-School New Location Ribbon Cutting
HIS Small Wonders Pre-School has moved locations. Their facility is now housed in historic downtown Plymouth at the Old Firehouse at 220 N Center Street. The pre-school is hosting a ribbon cutting and open house on Wednesday, October 11th at 5:30 p.m.
Kristie Nate, the owner and director of the organization, said the event isn’t simply limited to parents with students at the school, it is open to everyone in the community. Nate expressed her gratitude to everyone who chipped in to renovate the facility which has been abandoned for years.
“All of the parents of our pre-schoolers jumped in and our staff and everyone helped make this happen from painting, to carpeting, to moving.” Nate explained, “Everybody worked together and we’re excited for the public to see how this can be used in downtown Plymouth.” Continue reading

Two Arrested after Traffic Stop
Two Knox residents were arrested overnight Friday after a traffic stop in the area of Rose Road and Lincoln Highway in Marshall County.
Marshall County Police say a K9 searched the 2006 Kia passenger vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics. Officers reportedly found two used syringes under the passenger seat, plus 3.5 grams of heroin hidden underneath the floor carpeting on the driver’s side. Other items of drug paraphernalia were also allegedly collected.
Culver Man Arrested on Suspicion of Auto Theft
A Culver man was arrested Wednesday after Marshall County police received a call about an apparent car theft from a residence in the 7,000 block of 11A Road.
An officer with the Bourbon Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle reportedly matching the description of the stolen vehicle. During the course of the investigation, police reportedly found 58-year-old Ronald Bryan Finchum in possession of methamphetamine.
Finchum was booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary felony charges of auto theft and possession of methamphetamine.
Plymouth Man Dies in Marshall County Accident
The driver of a moped died after colliding with a pick-up in a Thursday afternoon accident in Marshall County.
Marshall County police say Danial Osborn, of Plymouth, was traveling north on State Road 17 on his moped and negotiating the curve at Sycamore Road at 2:51 p.m. when Dale Leiter, of Plymouth, was attempting to turn onto Sycamore Road in a Ford Ranger in front of Osborn and the pair collided.
Plymouth School Board Updates Employee Handbook, Classified Employee Guidelines
The Plymouth Community School Corporation has tightened its policies on background checks and drug testing for school employees. State law now requires school employees to have a background check every five years, not just when they’re first hired.
Shady Rest Committee to Meet Tuesday
Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner reminded fellow Commissioners Kevin Overmyer and Mike Delp this week that the Shady Rest Committee will be meeting again on Tuesday to discuss a proposal for use of the county home on Lincoln Highway in Plymouth.
On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the committee heard a proposal from Ted Hayden and Gregg Erickson who have teamed up to provide information on a proposed addiction recovery service at the Shady Rest Home. Bremen Oktoberfest Begins Today
The three-day event that attracts people from all over to the Town of Bremen begins today.
Oktoberfest starts at 5 p.m. this evening with a choice of shopping at different vendor booths or feasting at over a dozen food vendors available during this event that continues Saturday and Sunday. Many craft ales will be available for tasting. Unique contests await Oktoberfest attendees including the longboard race Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m .and the soap box derby race at 4 p.m. The bed race gets underway Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Oktoberfest concludes Sunday at 5 p.m. in downtown Bremen.
Culver Fall Fest Begins Today
Fall is here and the Town of Culver is ready to celebrate the changing of the season and all of the fun this time of the year has to offer.
The Culver Fall Fest begins today with a special concert by the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute band at the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets in the evening. This is the first time the group has played in the area and the first concert since the passing of Tom Petty. Hear these hits as you’ve never have heard them before beginning at 8 p.m. ET tonight.
Drive to Benefit Bremen Schools this Saturday
Tomorrow members of Marshall County not only have a chance to test-drive a new set of wheels for free, but they can also help assist a school corporation within the community simultaneously.
At Auto Park Ford in Bremen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. anyone over the age of 18 with a valid driver’s license can test drive one of the vehicles and $20 will be donated to the Bremen School Corporation for each vehicle driven.
The test drives are limited to one per household. When Triton Schools did this same program back in August they, were able to raise approximately $5,000 for various school expenses and student activities.
Fight Breast Cancer Every Step of the Way at Ounce of Prevention’s 5k on Saturday
This Sunday, come out to the Plymouth Greenway Trails to show your support for breast cancer awareness and to honor individuals who are currently fighting the disease and those who have lost their lives to it. The local organization Ounce of Prevention will be hosting their 5k for Cancer Fundraiser from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Ounce of Prevention is an organization that was founded by two sisters, Jessica Oliver and Jennifer Oliver Houin. The sisters experienced the disease directly with the loss of two grandmothers and the diagnosis of their sister-in-law. After wondering what they could do to help support others in their community, they decided to take action in 2003 by establishing Ounce of Prevention. One could see more and get info on getting the right kind of treatment and get their doubts cleared by professionals.
Their mission is to raise awareness about breast cancer and to gather funds locally that will be invested locally. All proceeds raised from the 5k for Cancer and other fund raising events remain in Marshall County.
There is still time to sign-up online but onsite registration will also be available beginning at noon. The registration fee is $25 and includes a t-shirt. Stellar Site Visit Today in Culver
The Town of Culver will welcome officials from the Stellar Communities Designation Program today for the official site visit. The town is a finalist in Division 2 in the Stellar Communities Designation Program.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist said today’s event will take several hours.
“We get about three hours to present information to the state review team that includes representatives from 14 different state agencies,” said Leist. “It’s our chance to bring the plan that we presented to them back in August to life. We’ll show them some of the sites where the projects would take place and sell them on Culver while they’re here.”
Commissioners Approve INDOT Contract for King Road Bridge Project
The Marshall County Commissioners signed a contract with INDOT this week for the King Road bridge project.
The county will act as the Local Public Agency. The state will pay 80 percent of the projected cost of the project as part of a federal aid funding mechanism. The total cost is $215,840.
John Glenn School Board Hold Public Hearing on Budget
The John Glenn School Board members held a public hearing on the 2018 budget on Tuesday night.
The 2018 budget estimate for all funds totals $17,730,462. The General Fund is just over $12,740,000 while the Capital Project Fund is estimated at $1,344,165. Officials told MAX 98.3 FM News that no major projects are anticipated in 2018, just maintenance on equipment, buildings and grounds. The Bus Replacement Plan is estimated at $300,000.
Plymouth School Board Adopts 2018 Budget
The Plymouth School Board formally adopted the corporation’s 2018 budget Tuesday. It calls for a General Fund of just under $26 million and a Capital Projects Fund of over $3 million.
Marshall County Auction Date Set
Marshall County Highway Administrator Laurie Baker informed the county commissioners this week about the county auction.
Baker said the auction will be Friday, Oct. 27 at 12:30 p.m. and will be handled by Ball Auction Service.
“We will need a commissioner representative there because we do have reserves on some of our equipment,” explained Baker. “We’ll need someone to yay or nay that day.” Continue reading
2016-2017 School Accountability Grades Released
The A through F School Accountability Grades for the 2016-2017 school year were released this week by the Indiana Department of Education. Locally, Triton, as well as some Plymouth Schools showed improvement from the year before.
Plymouth Farmer’s Market to Feature a Cards for our Troops Event
This weekend at the Plymouth Farmer’s Market, Project Kindness is teaming up with Operation Quiet Comfort to help display the community’s appreciation toward wounded and ill members of the armed forces. Community members of all ages are encouraged to come out and contribute to the Cards for Our Troops event.
Operation Quiet Comfort is a national organization that exists for the sole purpose of honoring and comforting military men and women who fall ill or are injured in the line of duty. Project Kindness is a local non-profit organization aimed at having monthly events to inspire, motivate and encourage children of all ages to perform acts of kindness in their everyday lives.
Making personalized greeting cards to give to the sick and injured individuals who defend this country is one way to relay our gratitude for their sacrifices. Cards for our Troops will be happening at the farmer’s market from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7th.
