South Bend Man Sentenced in Marshall County Armed Robbery Incident

A South Bend man who was found guilty of armed robbery in a two-day trial in June in Marshall County was sentenced by Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 Judge Robert O. Bowen on Wednesday to nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended.

According to Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman, a jury found that Raquan McKinstry, 19, met the teenaged victim in this case at the Sears parking lot on Feb. 29, 2016 to complete the sale of an iPhone. The pair agreed to meet through a Facebook conversation. The press release indicates that McKinstry and an accomplice asked if the victim or any of the passengers in his vehicle were armed and the victim said nobody was armed. McKinstry’s companion then pulled out a handgun and held it to the victim’s head and demanded money. McKinstry then took the money out of the victim’s wallet and left the scene. The victim then reported the incident to police.

Prosecutor Chipman says McKinstry’s accomplice and the driver of the car have not been arrested to this day and McKinstry will not identify them.
