Around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, the Indiana State Police investigated a fatal crash in Marshall County that occurred in the northbound driving lane of US 31, just north of 11th Road.

State Fire Marshal’s Office Assists Marshall County Sheriff’s Department With Suspicious Structure Fire Investigation
Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a call of a structure fire on 6th Road.
The 911 caller indicated that they were driving by when they observed a residence in the 11800 Block of 6th Road on fire. They further stated that it was unknown if there were any occupants inside, according to an official press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Continue reading
Plymouth Fire Department to Pay for Medications for Ambulances
The Plymouth Fire Department will now begin paying for medications supplied in the city’s ambulances.
Fire Chief Rod Miller told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members last week that the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center will begin charging the city for the pharmaceuticals and supplies that were provided free of charge. He said the hospital is no longer able to supply the needs for free.
Volunteer Clean-up Day Set for Saturday in Plymouth
A volunteer clean-up day in Plymouth is set for Saturday, March 3.
Residents and business owners affected by flood waters are encouraged to call 2-1-1 to report damage and needs.
Volunteers interested in participating in clean-up efforts are asked to arrive at the Plymouth Fire Department at 111 N. Center Street in Plymouth at 9 a.m. for a kick-off rally, task assignment and send-off. The effort will end at 2 p.m. Be sure to wear clothes you plan on throwing out after your volunteer effort is complete. Proper boots are essential.
Plymouth City Council Discusses Dispatch Fees for Center, West Townships
The Plymouth City Council members recently discussed central dispatch fees.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver explained that the city has an agreement with Center Township and West Township to provide fire protection services for them. Plymouth Fire Department would provide what they need for services.
Driver Injured After Reportedly Ramping Car Off Wrecker Truck on U.S. 31
A Kingsbury man was injured, when he reportedly ramped his car off the back of a wrecker truck on U.S. 31 near Plymouth. Marshall County Police say it happened around 8:00 Friday morning, just south of 9A Road.
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council to Meet Tonight
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members will open bids for 2018 fuel and street supplies when they meet tonight at 6 p.m. ET. The City Engineer is scheduled to discuss 2017 Community Crossing Matching Grant Project contracts. Reports will be presented from various department heads, the City Attorney and the Secretary and Finance Officer. Mayor Mark Senter will also provide board members with a report.
Additional business includes a discussion over traffic on Plum Street and accepting November 2017 reports from the Water and Wastewater departments.
At 6:30 p.m., or immediately following the first meeting, Plymouth City Council members will convene. Members will first address any unfinished business including any tabled ordinances, resolutions or other items. Continue reading
Firefighters Battle House Fire in Plymouth
Firefighters from several area fire departments battled a house fire in Plymouth Monday night.
According to the Plymouth Fire Department’s Facebook page, crews arrived at the scene around 6:43 p.m. and there they found a home on Pearl Street fully engulfed in flames. Crews were there for about eight hours battling the blaze. Strong winds hindered efforts as the fire spread quickly throughout the home.
The Plymouth Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Bremen, Argos, and La Paz Fire Departments and Plymouth EMS.
Driver Leaves Passenger at Scene of Accident
The driver involved in a Sunday morning accident fled the scene on foot and left the passenger in the car.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, a 2005 Acura was traveling westbound on Plymouth-Goshen Trail just east of Randolph Street shortly after 6 a.m. when it left the north side of the road for an unknown reason. The report states that a vehicle struck a utility pole and caused power lines to fall on the ground. The vehicle continued a short distance into a field where it came to a stop.
Plymouth BOW Approves Liability Coverage for Firefighter Training
A few firefighters from the Plymouth Fire Department are participating in training courses, but need to be included on the city’s liability insurance in order to complete part of their classes.
Fire Chief Rod Miller told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members last week that the coverage is needed for the trainees’ practical skills training.
Plymouth City Council Approves Resolution for Fire Department

Police, Fire Department Receive Donation, Payment
Two monetary items were accepted for the Plymouth Fire Department and the Plymouth Police Department.
Fire Chief Rod Miller told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety this week that the department received a check from Notre Dame for required medical services during practices in Culver. Miller said the check was in the amount of $3,080 and will be deposited in the gift fund.
