Marshall County Commissioners to Hold Hearing over Proposed Infrastructure Development Zone

Marshall County residents will have a chance to weigh in this morning on a measure that would make certain broadband infrastructure exempt from property taxation.

A public hearing over a proposed infrastructure development zone will be held during this morning’s county commissioners meeting. The designation was requested by Marshall County REMC last month.

Marshall County Election Board Approves Vote Center Change

The Marshall County Election Board reviewed a proposal to house two Vote Centers at the Knights of Columbus building.

The board previously learned that the National Guard Armory building is undergoing renovations and those improvements will not be complete in time for the May 8 Primary Election. The members thought moving that Vote Center into the Knights of Columbus building would work. That location is already a Plymouth East Vote Center so the board opted to merge the two Vote Centers into that building.

Plymouth Department Heads Seek Permission for Quotes and Grants

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members considered several department head requests to seek quotes for equipment and grants.

Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson is seeking quotes for the replacement of a service truck for the water department. He also asked to get quotes for a one-ton dump truck for the wastewater department. Both vehicle purchases are included in the department’s budget for capital improvement projects.

Marshall County Election Board Seeks Alternate Vote Center Site

The National Guard Armory in Plymouth is undergoing renovations and cannot be used as a Vote Center for the May Primary Election.

With the unavailability of the 12th vote center site, the Marshall County Election Board members Tuesday morning discussed simply moving forward with 11 vote centers or finding an alternate site. Clerk Deb Vandemark suggested checking on availability at the Knights of Columbus building in Plymouth to host more machines. Parking may be an issue, but the building would offer enough space and it would meet Vote Center requirements.

Bicentennial Barn Quilt Unveiling Scheduled Today

Indiana Bicentennial logoMarshall County’s latest Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project contribution will be unveiled during a ceremony this afternoon in downtown Plymouth. Marshall County Tourism coordinated the Marshall County Barn Quit Trail. It’s a series of large murals painted in a variety of quilt patterns on barns, businesses and public spaces throughout the county. Organizers say the trail celebrates the history of agriculture, the time-honored tradition of quilting, the community’s passion for art, community pride and Hoosier Hospitality. The trail features more than 75 quilts of various designs and colors. Continue reading
