Weekend Storms Bring Down Trees, Knock Out Power

The local area is cleaning up after this weekend’s storms. The National Weather Service says 911 dispatchers got a number of reports of trees down in much of Marshall County Saturday evening, especially across the northern end along U.S. 6.

A couple of homes in LaPaz reportedly caught fire, when a couple of trees fell on power lines. But the National Weather Service says the fires were quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.

A number of downed trees and power lines were also reported in Starke County.

Marshall County REMC says more than 2,700 of its members lost power, many for several hours. Kankakee Valley REMC had about 3,300 members in the dark, including 1,000 in Starke County that lost power due to a transmission outage from NIPSCO.
