The Marshall County Health Department has issued a news release about a potential measles exposure that reportedly occurred during the month of March. Measles is a highly contagious virus that is found in the nose and throat secretions of an infected person.
According to the MCHD, the Indiana Health Alert Network shared that a confirmed measles exposure has been identified in Indianapolis. An individual that was travelling through Indiana was later found to be a confirmed measles case.

A spike in drug overdoses over the Thanksgiving weekend has the Marshall County Health Department urging residents to learn to use the overdose reversal drug Narcan. A total of seven overdose events were reported in Marshall County last Saturday and Sunday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health Overdose Surveillance Team. None of them were fatal.
Marshall County Council Considers Grant Application Requests from Health Administrator
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson came before the county council Tuesday morning to seek permission to submit two grant applications.
Stinson explained that the requests are related to two trusts that have been a part of the health department for many years. The applications she requested permission to submit were for the Local Health Department Trust Account and the Local Health Maintenance Trust Account. Continue reading
Marshall County Council Meets Today
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel is expected to discuss a part-time security officer and will submit a request to apply for a marine patrol assistance grant when County Council members meet today.
County Council members are also anticipated to receive a presentation over a supportive housing project from Garden Court, Inc representatives Brent Martin and Jim Causey. A job description and wage for a code enforcement officer will be discussed by Plan Director Ty Adley and Health Administrator Christine Stinson will submit two grant application requests. Residents Affected by Flood Waters Attend Informational Meeting
Some Marshall County residents are still without shelter as they sift through wreckage of the place they formerly called home.
Several representatives from disaster relief organizations reminded residents of the efforts of volunteers to help put back the pieces after the devastation. Linda Yoder with the Long Term Recovery organization said 2-1-1 is available to assist with any questions and help direct victims to the best resources for specific issues.

The opioid crisis continues to be a concern in all communities including Marshall County.
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson told the Marshall County Council members last week that the number of overdose deaths in the county is alarming.
Marshall County Health Administrator Submits Grant Request
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson asked the county commissioners this week to apply for a grant to help test known IV users for Hepatitis C.
She explained that the Indiana State Association of County and City Health Officers offered mini grants in the amount of $2,500 to be used at the discretion of the applicant’s choice. Marshall County Health Administrator Applies for Grant
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson will be applying for an emergency preparedness grant.
She told the Marshall County Council members this week that the grant would be in the amount of $19,070. She said part of the funding could be used to purchase and update Automated External Difibrillators.
