Narcan Rescue Kit Training Set to Begin this Week

The first of four training sessions for the administration of Narcan begins this week.

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams believes that more Americans should carry the opioid overdose-reversing drug. He issued a general advisory concerning the issuance of Narcan rescue kits to all communities.

Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson said in a news release that carrying a Narcan rescue kit is the same as having the ability to perform CPR to someone in a health crisis. She added that educating residents on overdoses and the use of Narcan rescue kits can reduce the number of overdose deaths.

The number of overdose deaths in Marshall County has doubled from 2010 to 2016.

Marshall County Health Department Health Educator Theresa Budd encourages all to attend training and obtain a Narcan rescue kit.

Training is available on Tuesday, April 10, at 6 p.m. at the Argos Police Department. Other training dates include Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bremen Community Meeting Room, Wednesday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Culver Town Hall, and Tuesday, April 24, at 5 p.m. at the Community Resource Center in Plymouth.
