Joint County Work Session Set to Discuss Septic Issues

The Marshall County Commissioners and County Council members will meet in a joint work session in February to gather more information on the septic issues in the county.

Commissioner Mike Delp said Ken Jones from Jones Petrie Rafinski (JPR) Corp. and Dr. Byron Holm will be speaking to county officials on the ongoing issues with failing septic systems and the feasibility of a Regional Sewer District.

Delp and County Council member James Masterson are a part of the newly-formed Marshall County Sewer District Task Force.

In October, Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson told county officials that an in-depth DNR study in 2005 showed that the Four Lakes in Marshall County, Cook Lake, Holem Lake, Kreighbaum Lake, and Mill Pond Lake, are contaminated with septic.  She also stated that a year-long water shed study recently conducted by the Marshall County Soil and Water District showed that 12 sites tested over the permissible limits of E-coli.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting, but public input will not likely be included as part of the agenda.

The meeting will begin around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11 in the second floor meeting room in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street.  It will follow the regular meeting of the Marshall County Council that day.
