The Marshall County Council members will meet today where Sheriff Matt Hassel will have several budget updates and job description updates for council consideration. Hassel is anticipated to talk about either leasing or purchasing four new vehicles for the sheriff’s department for the commissioners’ final decision next week.

Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county council members on Monday, Jan. 14 that the county has received $16,000 in debris removal thus far.
“I talked to a gentleman yesterday,” said Peters. “Once again they switched hands,” said Peters. “He was calling and asking for county information of where to submit the check.”
The county repaired damaged roads, culverts and bridges during the flooding event last year.
In a previous meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners, EMA Director Clyde Avery said FEMA has provided approximately $350,000 in individual assistance to homeowners that were impacted.

The Marshall County Commissioners and County Council members will meet in a joint work session in February to gather more information on the septic issues in the county.

Representatives of Garden Court, Inc. asked the Marshall County Council members this week for an update on a decision on a funding assistance request for a permanent supportive housing facility in Plymouth.
Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman asked the county council members for a waiver of probationary pay for a new employee.
The Marshall County Council members approved several additional appropriation requests in several accounts in order to end the year.
Marshall County Council members are not quite ready to approve job descriptions provided by Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele. The county was given a few of the job descriptions in April, but all of the documents for all positions within the county were received in October.
Funding is now in place for a superintendent position at the Marshall County Highway Department.
The Marshall County Council will meet today where they will approve the appointments of representatives the Lake of the Woods Regional Sewer District and the Plymouth Public Library. Prosecutor Nelson Chipman will also have a request for a waiver of probationary pay for an employee in his office.
Marshall County Coroner John Grolich came before County Council members with a few different requests when they met last Tuesday. Grolich was seeking an additional appropriation of $1,000 and also noted a request to transfer $1,000 from the autopsy fund to the toxicology fund.
Auditor Julie Fox informed the council that since the transfer was from two funds within the same category, it would not require any official action but the additional appropriation did. Members unanimously approved the appropriation of $1,000.
Additionally, Council President Judy Stone brought up a salary ordinance amendment that would increase the per diem pay for deputies who work in the field for the coroner’s office. Continue reading
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson came before the county council Tuesday morning to seek permission to submit two grant applications.
Stinson explained that the requests are related to two trusts that have been a part of the health department for many years. The applications she requested permission to submit were for the Local Health Department Trust Account and the Local Health Maintenance Trust Account. Continue reading

Marshall County Plan Director Ty Adley discussed a part-time code enforcement officer position with County Council members Tuesday morning.
Director Adley noted that the position wouldn’t be filled until 2019. He told council members, “I’m looking to hopefully advertise by the end the month and have prospects back towards the end of December and somebody hired as soon as we can in January.” Continue reading

A little more than 15,080 Marshall County residents cast a ballot in the 2018 Midterm Elections. A total of 10,336 ballots were recorded from Tuesday’s election at the polls and another 4,745 votes came from residents who cast absentee ballots. Continue reading
