Marshall County Council Approves Per Diem Increase for Coroner’s Office Deputies, Among other Requests

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich came before County Council members with a few different requests when they met last Tuesday. Grolich was seeking an additional appropriation of $1,000 and also noted a request to transfer $1,000 from the autopsy fund to the toxicology fund.

Auditor Julie Fox informed the council that since the transfer was from two funds within the same category, it would not require any official action but the additional appropriation did. Members unanimously approved the appropriation of $1,000.

Additionally, Council President Judy Stone brought up a salary ordinance amendment that would increase the per diem pay for deputies who work in the field for the coroner’s office. Grolich shared that it would be a $25 raise for each case that the extra deputies handled.

President Stone added that the increase would bump the per diem pay up to $100 and noted that it was already accounted for and approved in the 2019 budget.

That action was presented in the form of an ordinance that was approved without any opposition.

Grolich thanked the council for their cooperation and took a moment to acknowledge the members of his team and extend an invitation to the council.

Grolich shared, “I’m kind of proud of my staff, they do a pretty good job of taking care of families […] and anytime that anybody is interested in what we do, you’re certainly more than welcome to come along and see what we do.”

Before he left, Auditor Julie Fox reminded Grolich to bring in the necessary paper work to support the approved transfer into her office.
