Marshall County Council Approves Additional Appropriations

The Marshall County Council members approved several additional appropriation requests in several accounts in order to end the year.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel explained that the Marshall County Council on Aging paid $16,000 for the meals on wheels program provided by the jail and he would like that money in the Jail LIT Special Purpose Fund. Additionally, he is asking that $20,000 be appropriated to help offset the cost of prisoner meals. The increase in the jail population has caused a shortfall in that account this year. Hassel also requested an additional appropriation of $4,000 from the Jail LIT Special Purpose fund to help offset the shortfall in supplies due to the increase in the jail population. A final additional appropriation request out of the same fund was made in the amount of $12,000 to offset the shortage of medical care for inmates.

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters asked for $52,500 from the Cumulative Capital Bridge Fund for upcoming expenses in the drainage fund for culvert pipe for a project at the Lake of the Woods. He said it’s been a project that’s been in the works for three years.

The last additional appropriation request was from the Marshall County Historical Society Museum in the part-time clerical fund within their own budget for $4,500 in order to finish paying salaries through the end of 2018.

The council members approved the requests with a unanimous vote.
