Marshall County Mid-Term Election Results

A little more than 15,080 Marshall County residents cast a ballot in the 2018 Midterm Elections. A total of 10,336 ballots were recorded from Tuesday’s election at the polls and another 4,745 votes came from residents who cast absentee ballots.

In regards to the Culver School referendum that asked residents to weigh in a proposed tax increase that would assist the school corporation, 60 percent of Marshall County voters were in favor of it and 40 percent voted no.

One major contested race in this election was the District 1 County Commissioner seat where Republican Stan Klotz was going up against Democrat Richard Erickson. Klotz came out on top of that race, winning about 68 percent of the vote.

Another race that had everyone on the edge of their seats Tuesday night was the Culver Town Council race. Three individuals, Republican Bill Cleavenger, Democrat Richard West and Republican Bill Githens, were vying for two open positions. It was a close race but in the end, Githens and Cleavenger came out on top.

For the first time in its history, the Argos School Board participated in the election, after recently switching from an appointed school board.

Two of the seats that were open were uncontested but there were two individuals, Angela Smith and Ed Barcus, who ran for the District 2 seat. In that race, Smith received about 58 percent of the vote while Barcus got 41 percent.

Another set of contested races included the County Council seats for districts two, three and four.

Republican candidate Mandy Campbell received nearly 68 percent of the votes for the District 2 Seat, beating her competitor Democrat Martin Oosterbaan. For the District 3 seat, Jack Roose won with 65 percent of the vote, beating Democrat Mark Gidley.

Republican Judith Stone will be serving as the District 4 representative on the County Council following her victory over Democrat Angie Rupchock-Schafer.
