Parent College Night at Lincoln Junior High School

Lincoln Jr. High School in Plymouth will be hosting its second annual parent college night from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight. All 7th and 8th grade students, as well as their parents are invited to attend this informative program.

The “Launch Your Future Now” event will explore a number of topics related to preparation for college and careers beyond high school. Parents will also be informed about what is being done at Lincoln to help students prepare. Continue reading

Plymouth School Board to Continue Planning for Lincoln Junior High Project

The Plymouth School Board will hear comments from the public tonight on the lease finance process for the Lincoln Junior High School building project. The corporation plans to replace much of the school with a new building, while the original 1926 structure will be left in place and renovated for other uses. On top of that, renovations are also planned at Plymouth High School, Riverside Intermediate School, and Washington Discovery Academy.

Plymouth School Board Approves Use of Rainy Day Fund for Lincoln Junior High Project

The Lincoln Junior High School building project has the Plymouth Community School Corporation borrowing money from its Rainy Day Fund. Superintendent Andy Hartley told the school board Tuesday that some architect’s bills will soon be due to Barton-Coe-Vilamaa, but the bonds to pay for the project won’t be sold for another couple months.

Plymouth Police Chief Addresses Traffic Flow around Lincoln Jr. High School

Plymouth City Police Chief David Bacon presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members with a solution to a traffic flow issue on school days around the Lincoln Jr. High School.

Chief Bacon said Mayor Mark Senter and City Attorney Sean Surrisi met with the Director of Safety and Security and the Transportation Director from the school corporation to address traffic issues. He said traffic gets snarled around the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up portions of the school day at Lincoln Jr. High School.

“Traffic gets backed up on Gibson onto Liberty so we looked at ways to remedy that,” said Chief Bacon. “One solution is no parking on the south side of Gibson from Liberty Street to the circle drive. That will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days only.”

Preliminary Timeline Given for Lincoln Junior High Project

A proposed timeline for the construction of the Lincoln Junior High School project was released during the Plymouth Community School Board meeting last week.

Superintendent Dan Tyree said no petitions against the project were filed within the 30 day period since the public hearing on the project so the board can move forward with plans. The corporation plans to purchase property at the far east of the junior high. The property is needed to accommodate a 50-foot setback requirement for fire safety.

Public Hearing Held on Proposed Lincoln Junior High Construction

The Plymouth Community School Board held a public hearing last night to field comments on the proposed new Lincoln Junior High School facility.

Superintendent Dan Tyree said that focus groups were asked to tour the current facility and all involved determined that a new facility was needed. The cost to rehabilitate the current building was deemed not feasible.

Plymouth School Corporation Forms Committee to Address Suicide

Following the suicide deaths of two Plymouth High School students within a year of each other, the Plymouth Community School Corporation is taking a series of steps to address the issue. Plymouth School Principals Discuss Additional Test Results

ISTEPPlymouth school principals reviewed their schools’ test results during Tuesday’s school board meeting. Last month, the elementary school principals discussed their schools’ scores on last year’s ISTEP test. Plymouth Student Chosen for All-State Jazz Band

A Plymouth student has been selected for the 2016 Indiana Junior All-State Jazz Band. Hugh Smith, an eighth-grader at Lincoln Junior High School, will be playing the trumpet when the band performs Friday, January 15 in Fort Wayne, as part of the Indiana Music Education Association’s 2016 State Conference. The band is made up of seventh-through-ninth graders from around the state.
