Plymouth School Board to Continue Discussion on Sex Education

Plymouth School CorporationThe Plymouth School Board will continue its discussion of how to incorporate sexual health and drug education into the junior high school curriculum during tonight’s meeting. Lincoln Junior High School Principal Reid Gault has been asking the school board for its permission to introduce the 10-day PATH (Positive Approach to Teen Health) program this spring.

Since some students have already taken their Health class, Gault had proposed including the program in the Science curriculum instead. However, some school board members expressed concern with the plan to remove two weeks of the existing science curriculum in order to include the PATH program. Tonight, Gault is expected to ask the board to approve a new plan, which will allow the program to be taught strictly as part of the Health curriculum.

Also during tonight’s meeting, Superintendent Dan Tyree will give the school board an update on some of the renovations taking place, including the construction of a new grandstand at the high school football field and the expansion of the administration building.

The board will also be asked to release bids for projects planned for over the summer at the corporation. The elementary school principals will discuss their school’s ISTEP scores, and the school board will decide whether to approve each school’s improvement plan. Additionally, the school board will consider stipends for corporation staff members.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. EST at the Plymouth Schools Administration Building.
