Bremen Library Board Members Receives Appointment for Full Term

The Bremen School Board authorized an appointment for the Bremen Public Library Board when members met last Wednesday.

After the school board’s previous appointment Don Harrison tendered his resignation in the fall of 2018, members were tasked with finding someone new to sit on the library board. School superintendent Dr. Jim White said the school board appointed Cynthia McKenzie at that time.

New Lights are Going Up at the Bremen High School Football Field

Now that the season has officially wrapped up, new lighting is going in at the Bremen High School football field. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the project is currently ongoing and it’s expected to wrap up in about 3 weeks.

The superintendent previously mentioned that the existing football lighting was installed in the 1960s and was on wooden poles while the replacements will be made of a much sturdier metal material. Continue reading

Project Updates Delivered at Bremen School Board Meeting

A few different project updates were delivered at this week’s Bremen School Board meeting.

Back in July, school officials approved a $132,000 quote from McGuff Roofers for repairs to the roof at the elementary/middle school.

At Monday night’s meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jim White shared that contractors will do their best to complete certain sections before it gets too cold but the project will have to be finished up in the spring time. Continue reading

Bremen Superintendent Addresses Handheld Metal Detectors

Though administrative staff members at Bremen Public Schools were trained to use the corporation’s new handheld metal detectors by the county sheriff, school officials are waiting for a more solid set of rules to come through before they start utilizing them.

Bremen Schools Work with NEOLA to Update School Policies

Bremen School Board members received a brief update about NEOLA policy upgrades at their Monday night meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White previously shared that up until recently, Bremen officials were writing their own policies. In order to avoid being left behind, school board members agreed to enter into a partnership with NEOLA, an organization that will help them incorporate all applicable state laws and regulations into their school policies. Bremen School Board Considers Quotes from Local Hospitals to Establish Partnership for Athletic Trainer Contract

After a policy change caused Kosciusko Community Hospital to start charging Bremen Public Schools for Athletic Trainer services, officials decided to get quotes from various local healthcare facilities to weigh all available options.

Bremen School Board Approves Teacher Representative for Insurance Trust

Bremen Band Director Matthew Sutton was appointed as the teacher representative for the MASE Insurance Trust at this week’s Bremen School Board meeting.

Treasurer Stephanie Pittman explained that Bremen Public School Corporation is a part of the Midwest Area School Employee Insurance Trust which is comprised of approximately 22 different schools that pool together to purchase medical insurance.

Pittman said that the bylaws of the organization require that the school corporation must have a representative and the teacher’s association is permitted to appoint someone as well. Continue reading
