A Bourbon man was sentenced Thursday on charges that he manufactured methamphetamine at a Plymouth address.

Plymouth Police attempted to serve a warrant on Wednesday, but found themselves filing additional charges.

Plans are now being laid for a new caucus in Marshall County following the resignation of Council President Matt Hassel.
The resignation follows Hassel’s election as Marshall County Sheriff on Tuesday night. His swearing-in took place on Wednesday. Prior to being able to officially serve as Sheriff, Hassel was required under state statute to first leave his post on the Council.

The war on drugs begins at home. That’s the message a Valparaiso man whose 20-year-old daughter died of a heroin overdose in 2002 shared with a group of community members yesterday in Marshall County. Mann Spitler III became a certified prevention professional and discontinued his podiatry practice in 2006. Manna was his only child. He says she succumbed to peer pressure as a teenager and started using heroin. Spitler urges parents to take note of changes in their child’s appearance. He says bloodshot eyes, contracted or dilated pupils are signs of opiate use. Cocaine can also cause pupils to dilate. So can marijuana, but the whites of the eyes will be bloodshot as well. A not-for-profit is kicking-off a major fundraising effort starting on Thursday.
The United Way of Marshall County says Dine Out for United Way 2015 will start at Burger King on Michigan Street and Mooney’s Ice Cream in Plymouth. The idea is that the restaurants will donate a portion of their sales that day to the United Way.

The Marshall County Republican Party has appointed a new Sheriff.
A caucus was held Tuesday night at the party’s headquarters in Plymouth. Several candidates were vying for the position, receiving an opportunity to make their case before the Republican Party’s precinct committee.
