PLYMOUTH — On the evening of Aug. 14, 2026, at 4 pm, Plymouth Police received information that Hunter Cole, 28, of Plymouth, was at a residence on 11B Road.

Cole was confirmed to have an outstanding felony warrant for child molestation in Starke County. Plymouth Police with K9 Kyzer, along with the Marshall County Drug Task Force and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, went to the residence and observed a man later identified as 34-year-old Jhordan Cole of Plymouth leaving the home and attempting to hide an item, which was later found to be suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The same subject was taken into custody along with Mary Morrow, 49, of Plymouth, and Adam Risner, 43, of Plymouth. K9 Kyzer would assist after verbal announcements were made for Hunter Cole to exit the residence. He complied and was taken into custody before being turned over to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.
Risner, Morrow, and Jhordan Cole were transported and lodged at the Marshall County Jail for felony-assisting a criminal, felony-maintaining a common nuisance, and Cole for the additional felony-possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor-possession of paraphernalia.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WASHINGTON — FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Indiana to supplement

state, tribal, and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding beginning on August 11, 2026, and continuing.
The President’s action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all federal disaster relief efforts to alleviate the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance to save lives, to protect property, public health and safety and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe.
This assistance is for many Indiana counties, including locally, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Porter, Pulaski, St. Joseph, and Starke.
Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide, at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75% federal funding.
Darrin Ricketts has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal response operations in the affected area. Designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

PLYMOUTH — On the evening of August 13, 2026, Plymouth Police found a vehicle stopped in the middle of Pioneer

Drive. While speaking with the driver, it was determined that a woman had exited the vehicle after an argument and proceeded to walk on foot. The driver was unsure where she was.
The patrolman located the woman further down the roadway. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and noticed signs of impairment. Glory May Hummel (19) was placed in custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana State Police are urging drivers to travel safely in

areas experiencing flooding and severe weather.
“I’m closely monitoring conditions and have directed INDOT, Indiana State Police and our other state agencies to deploy resources wherever they’re needed as severe weather continues across Indiana,” said Governor Mike Braun.
“Please take road closures and high-water warnings seriously. Plan your travel carefully, avoid areas prone to flooding and never drive around barricades or through floodwaters.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, more than a dozen state highways and U.S. routes were closed across Indiana due to flooding and weather-related impacts. That number could potentially grow with additional severe weather expected through Friday.
INDOT crews are implementing road closures where necessary, as well as clearing drains and debris from roadways, to maintain safe travel conditions. State Police are continuing to patrol roadways, assisting motorists and providing support to local agencies in the hardest hit communities.
“INDOT crews are actively working to address weather-related issues on state-maintained roads,” said INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist. “The agency is keeping a close eye on conditions and closing roads as necessary to help keep people out of harm’s way. Do not attempt to navigate flooded roadways.”
“Safety must always come first during heavy rainfall and flooding events,” said ISP Superintendent Anthony Scott. “We urge everyone to avoid areas with high water, as conditions can change rapidly and unpredictably. It only takes six inches of moving water to knock you off your feet, and just twelve inches to sweep away small vehicles. Please obey all road closures, never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways, and remember the lifesaving rule: turn around, don’t drown.”
If you must travel and encounter high water, do not attempt to continue driving. Always turn around and find an alternate route. Remember to slow down, turn on your headlights and watch for ponding or debris in the roadway as weather moves through.
Due to widespread power outages, especially in northern Indiana, drivers may find non-functioning traffic signals. In these instances, intersections should be treated as all-way stops.

PLYMOUTH — On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 1:09 am the Marshall County Coroner’s Office was notified of a death at

the Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth.
An investigation found that the deceased, James Galt Jr., age 64, of Plymouth, had left the Pretty Lake Golf Club driving a golf cart. Galt drove the golf cart off an embankment onto an asphalt parking lot.
Galt was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner John Lampkins from injuries sustained in the crash.
Responding agencies included the Plymouth Fire Department & Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Commissioners will have their second meeting of the month on Monday, Aug. 17, starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Commissioners will hear regular reports from Jason Peters of the Highway Department, Attorney Sean Surrisi, and Auditor Angie Birchmeier.
They will also hear requests from Billy Schoff and John Greer from Buildings and Grounds, Jackie Franks from the Health Department, and Deb VanDeMark and Greg Hildebrand of the County Park Board.
A prepay request, a letter of support for renaming a portion of US 6, and an emergency declaration for storm damage are listed as Commissioner items.

PLYMOUTH – Budget talks continue for the Marshall County Council, and part of the request from President of the Commissioners Stan Klotz was to consider two new IT positions – one in particular for the County Jail.

The need for more help in the county’s IT department started, according to Klotz, as a suggestion from fellow Commissioner Adam Faulstich that the department was understaffed.

Currently, the county pays for IT consulting services from Hyperwave, and Klotz was asked if adding the new IT positions would do away with that cost.

County IT Director Mike Marshall weighed in on the discussion, especially regarding a position being added at the jail.

Discussion continues on whether to add the two positions and just how they would be funded.

CAMBRIDGE CITY — Governor Mike Braun today declared a statewide disaster emergency and announced he mobilized the Indiana National Guard as he continues leading Indiana’s coordinated response to widespread damage, power outages and flooding caused by this week’s severe storms.
“My heart goes out to every Hoosier impacted by these storms,” said Gov. Braun. “My number one priority is protecting Hoosier lives, and our state and local teams are standing shoulder to shoulder to do just that. Our state’s response is firing on all cylinders. I’ve declared a statewide disaster emergency, mobilized the Indiana National Guard and directed state agencies to get people, equipment and resources where they’re needed. Hoosiers can be confident that we are working around the clock to keep people safe and help our communities recover.”
Gov. Braun signed Executive Order 26-21 Thursday, declaring a statewide disaster emergency. The declaration finds that state assistance is necessary to supplement local resources and directs the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) to enlist the support of other state agencies and provide needed emergency services to impacted counties. It also directs IDHS to coordinate necessary assistance among federal, state and local agencies.
State agencies are responding to requests from communities across Indiana, including boats and personnel for water rescues, heavy equipment and crews for debris removal, traffic control, emergency generators, oxygen support, fuel and evacuation assistance.
Gov. Braun also authorized the mobilization of the Indiana National Guard to provide additional manpower and resources in Gary, Munster and Hobart. The Indiana National Guard is positioned for life-saving activities as well as cleanup and support.
Gov. Braun has directed state emergency teams to remain ready and is urging Hoosiers to do the same with another round of potential severe weather in the forecast for already impacted communities. Heavy rainfall on already saturated ground could quickly cause additional flash flooding.
“Even as we recover from what has already happened, we are preparing for what may come next,” said Gov. Braun. “Our teams are positioned, our agencies are coordinating and resources are ready to move. I urge every Hoosier to stay weather aware, listen to local authorities and never drive through floodwaters.”

PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Common Council took the first step towards a tax abatement for the expansion of a 40-plus-year

Plymouth business.
AK Industries has begun the process of adding new equipment and a new product to their line, projected for December of this year, that will also add at least six new jobs. The Council voted to declare “…certain real estate to be within an economic revitalization area” in order to begin that process.
General Manager James Connelly brought a visual aid for the Council in the form of a small-scale model of the new product the equipment will produce.

AK Industries has been in operation in Plymouth since 1981 and currently employs 206 people. The new equipment will come at a purchase price of $1.2 million.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Office of Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs

announced that 19 rural communities will receive more than $14.2 million in federal grant funding to expand community facilities and improve drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
The Town of Winamac is awarded $750,000 to update water infrastructure and improve operational efficiency for residents and town staff.
The City of Plymouth is awarded $750,000 to restore the structural integrity of the 1875 historic firehouse in its downtown corridor. Renovations include necessary masonry work on the exterior brick façade, roof replacement, bell tower and cupola refurbishment, and replacement of exterior entry doors. These improvements will allow the building to continue to be used as a public space.
“Federal funding should produce something tangible for the people paying into the system,” Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith said. “These awards give local communities the opportunity to turn those dollars into projects that will serve Hoosiers for years to come.”
OCRA distributes Community Development Block Grant funds to rural communities, which assist units of local government with various community projects such as infrastructure improvement, downtown revitalization, public facilities and economic development.
“Through earning this grant funding, these 19 communities demonstrate their commitment to the long-term quality of life of their residents,” OCRA Executive Director Fred Glynn said. “Congratulations to the local officials who lead these efforts, I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these projects around our Hoosier cities and towns.”

PLYMOUTH — On Aug. 8th, 2026, at 1:54 a.m., Officers with the Plymouth Police Department received a 911 call regarding a

possible physical domestic disturbance at the Economy Inn.
Plymouth Police units responded and located the source of the disturbance on the second floor at the southwest corner of the motel. As officers began speaking to an involved man and woman, 25-year-old Isaiah Batta, of Plymouth, began running.
Officers initiated a foot pursuit with Batta, who was eventually tased and taken into custody. Batta was treated at the hospital and transported to Marshall County Jail, where he was booked and lodged for Resisting Law Enforcement.

HAMMOND — Governor Mike Braun directed state response efforts from Northwest Indiana today, assessing damage from

Tuesday’s severe storms and coordinating resources, as widespread power outages, flooding and storms continue across the state.
“Between storm damage, widespread power outages and flooding, hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers have been impacted across the state,” said Gov. Braun. “I’ve directed our agencies to work around the clock alongside local officials, first responders and utility crews to get resources where they’re needed. As storms continue today, our teams are ready, resources are in place, and we will continue responding to needs as they arise.”
Braun and other state officials met with local officials and first responders to receive an update on storm damage, power outages, and ongoing response efforts.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is leading the state’s response in coordination with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana Department of Correction. The state has also provided generators and an oxygen trailer to support needs in Northwest Indiana.
Utility crews are working to restore service, and IDHS is coordinating with local officials and response partners to address needs created by the outages. The American Red Cross stands ready to establish shelters, cooling centers and charging stations as needed. Hoosiers without power are encouraged to take precautions against the heat and use available cooling centers if needed.
As storms continue across Indiana on Wednesday, the state’s emergency response teams remain ready for changing conditions. Saturated ground could increase the risk of additional flooding from heavy rainfall, while stronger storms could bring gusty winds and additional downed trees and power lines.
Hoosiers should have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts, follow guidance from local authorities, never drive or walk through floodwaters, avoid downed power lines and dangerous road conditions, and give first responders and utility crews room to work.

PLYMOUTH – President of the Commissioners Stan Klotz came before the Marshall County Council during budget hearings to

bring up a cost on the horizon that was not included in the new budget. Yet.
By law, juvenile offenders are not allowed to be incarcerated with adults, and currently the county has no real place to detain those who are taken into custody for any length of time.

He told the Council that leasing beds at an out-of-county facility was the best of bad options.

The County has sent juvenile offenders to facilities in Fort Wayne and Muncie, but most times the juvenile would need to appear in court the next day, prompting Sheriff’s officers to make three trips for transportation to and from those facilities, sometimes in less than 24 hours, depleting the Sheriff’s departments manpower.
Klotz and the Marshall County Probation Department continue to work on options.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Indiana was priced at $2.98/g yesterday while the most expensive was $3.99/g, a difference of $1.01/g.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 10.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.94/g today.
“Average gasoline prices declined in 47 states over the last week while diesel fell in 39, with the national average price of gasoline posting a double-digit drop per gallon,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Diesel’s decline was roughly half that of gasoline, in part due to continued pressure on refined product markets from ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. However, the wild ride continues. Iran is pushing back against a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and oil prices edged modestly higher in Sunday night trading, signaling that the recent relief may not last. With the Strait remaining closed, upward pressure on fuel prices could return quickly, and if things don’t go well, the national average could climb to its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year. PLYMOUTH — On Aug. 2, 2026, at 7:22 p.m., Officers with the Plymouth Police Department were dispatched to Pearl Street for a reported Domestic Battery.

Officers arrived on scene and advised that Rogelio Miranda, 42 years old, of Plymouth, and his stepson had gotten into a physical fight.
During the investigation, the stepson had an injury to his head and was checked out by medics. Miranda was placed under arrest and transported to Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for domestic battery.

PLYMOUTH — On Aug. 8, 2026, at approximately 8:40 PM, Marshall County dispatch advised of a stolen vehicle out of Elkhart

County. Dispatch advised the stolen vehicle was a 2012 Ford Fusion, blue in color, driven by Andrea Tuttle, 47, of Ft. Wayne.
At 10:32 PM, officers were dispatched to the Dairy Queen for a disabled vehicle. The caller advised that the vehicle would not run. Dispatch advised that the caller was Andrea Tuttle.
Police located the vehicle parked on the west side of the building. Tuttle was detained while confirmation of the stolen vehicle was obtained. A container holding an amount of crystal-like material and four glass smoking devices were also located.
Tuttle was placed under arrest and transported to the Marshall County jail.

Yesterday’s severe storm, bringing rain, lightning, and dangerously high winds, caused elevated electric power outages in portions

of NIPSCO’s Northern Indiana service area. The company’s website estimated approximately 301,000 of the company’s 500,000 customers were affected.
Based on outage numbers, the most impacted communities included most of Lake County, LaPorte, and the southern portion of Marshall County.
Storm damage, extensive vegetation debris, flooding, and power outages created hazardous conditions and traffic backups across the area, making it difficult for our crews to assess and address damage promptly.
As of late Tuesday night, crews were actively working to restore service safely and as quickly as possible.
