Marshall County Commissioners Approve Resolutions Concerning U.S. 31 Improvements in Argos, Fulton County

The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed two joint resolutions Monday morning that would communicate recommendations on what type of road improvements are preferred at three locations along U.S. 31.

The first joint resolution would recommend an overpass at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 in Argos.  The resolution was unanimously passed by the Argos Town Council members during their June 16 meeting and the commissioners also passed the resolution with a unanimous vote Monday morning.

The second joint resolution would recommend the construction of an overpass at U.S. 31 and State Road 110 as there are numerous accidents at that intersection.  The resolution also recommends the construction of a bridge over U.S. 31 at 700 N. to accommodate truck traffic to the landfill and for the safety of horse and buggies used by the Amish community members for transportation in the area.  Both of these locations are in Fulton County.  The commissioners approved the resolution with a unanimous vote.  The same resolution is anticipated to be approved by the Fulton County Commissioners at their meeting this week.

Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer, who is on the U.S. 31 coalition, said these resolutions are in response to comments made about indecisiveness about what is wanted in the northern portion of U.S. 31.

“This put it in a resolution and in writing,” stated Overmyer.  “I’d also like to have this sent to State Senator Ryan Mishler who is working with INDOT on these projects and who also put in money in the budget for projects along U.S. 31.”

The resolutions are expected to be sent to Governor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe McGuiness for review.
