Fourth graders at Washington Discovery Academy are working to design the “perfect” animal that could thrive in any environment. It’s part of an effort to learn about how animals adapt to different places and climates. A group of five students gave an update on the project to the Plymouth School Board last week.
Plymouth school students and staff members who are making a difference in their community were recognized by Superintendent Andy Hartley during Tuesday’s Plymouth School Board meeting.
The Plymouth School Board will hear comments from the public tonight on the lease finance process for the Lincoln Junior High School building project. The corporation plans to replace much of the school with a new building, while the original 1926 structure will be left in place and renovated for other uses. On top of that, renovations are also planned at Plymouth High School, Riverside Intermediate School, and Washington Discovery Academy.
This Friday, Plymouth Schools will be holding a few different programs in honor of Veterans Day.
To start off the day, members of the Plymouth High School student council will be hosting a breakfast from 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Local veterans are encouraged to contact the school corporation ahead of time to reserve their spot. After reviewing 30 applicants, the Plymouth Community School Board approved the hire of Lauren Cooper as the new principal at Washington Discovery Academy.
Cooper has been with the Plymouth Community School Corporation for nine years. She previously served as a teacher and instructional coach at Menominee Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School and Washington Discovery Academy. Before her employment at Plymouth she was a first grade teacher at Queen of All Saints Catholic School in Michigan City where she began her career in education.
