County and city officials, along with other departments and organizations focused on disaster relief efforts met Monday morning to address needs. It’s been a community effort and all leaders commented that the community’s response has been overwhelming. Those attending offered several pieces of information to help those picking up after the damage.
Webster Center Available As Emergency Shelter for Flood Victims
Those displaced by this week’s floods can take emergency shelter at the Webster Center in Plymouth. City officials say cots, food, and shower facilities are available. Transportation is also available upon request.

The United Way campaign kicks off Saturday, Aug. 12 with the second annual Taste of Marshall County event at the Young Amphitheater in Plymouth’s Centennial Park.
The Taste of Marshall County is the official launch of the 2017 campaign with proceeds benefiting the fight for health, education and financial stability of all residents. Local health and human service non-for-profit groups gain support from the United Way of Marshall County, a tradition that spans 50 years. More than $8 million has been allocated to local agencies for an array of community needs.

Marshall County United Way Event to Honor Volunteers
Efforts by individuals and businesses across Marshall County will be recognized in a special event tomorrow evening in Plymouth.
The United Way of Marshall County’s Campaign Volunteer and Donor Recognition will focus on the 2014 sensational seven campaign chairs. They include Donna Burroughs, Pam Mahler-Lee, Ginny Munroe, Cindy Rash, Debi Sahlhoff and Jeannette Teall. In addition to being honored with this distinction, Cindy Rash will also be recognized as the Volunteer of the Year Award for Marshall County by the Indiana Association of United Ways.
United Way of Marshall County Looking for More Funds to Close Campaign
United Way of Marshall County officials are hoping for some last-minute donations to help the organization meet its 2014 campaign of $550,000.
Campaign Co-Chair Cindy Rash says the goal is within reach and donations can be made by phone or online to make it happen. A shortfall of about $35,000 is anticipated, but it’s not an amount that will affect programs for local agencies, projects and programs in Marshall County that rely on the United Way’s support.
United Way of Marshall County supports 24 nonprofit agencies and programs.
United Way Accepting Fund Request Applications
Nonprofit organizations are invited to submit requests for funding through the United Way of Marshall County.
The United Way receives nearly $500,000 a year to help organizations with funding needs. A focus on education, health and financial stability help distribute funds to where they are needed the most.
Volunteers visit United Way member agencies and conduct an annual in-depth review. The volunteers and board members have careful deliberation to ensure that funds are distributed fairly and objectively so the they are being used in the best way to serve the community.
