Community Benefit and Giving Day Planned to Assist Marshall County Residents Affected by Floods

In order to assist the Marshall County residents who were most severely impacted by February’s flooding, some fundraising efforts are being organized for later this month.

Long Term Recovery Committee meetings consist of business owners, government officials, and representatives from non-profit, faith-based and relief organizations who have been working to coordinate flood relief efforts ever since the focus switched from reaction to recovery.

According to a media release, teams of local volunteers continue to play a major role in flood response. The members of the McFlood 2018 Fundraising Committee plan to host a benefit and giving day to raise some funds for needed resources. The community benefit is planned for Saturday, May 19th at River Park Square and the Giving Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 20th.

Marshall County reportedly had more than 250 homes impacted by the flood, with 50 of those houses described as either being destroyed or sustaining major damage. There are currently 17 trained volunteer case managers with the Long Term Recovery Committee who are working with flood survivors to determine unmet needs.

The preliminary data that has been collected from 80 households shows that there are 53 damaged furnaces – with 25 inoperable and some houses experienced enough foundation damage to cause certain families to remain displaced. Additionally, over 37 percent of those reporting to date are senior citizens.

If you still need to report damage or seek assistance or if you’re looking to assist with flood relief efforts call 574-316-0170.
