Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over this Labor Day Weekend

The Labor Day weekend is filled with a variety of different celebrations including the Marshall County Blueberry Festival and the Monterey Days Festival. These types of events may lead to alcohol consumption. If you drink, don’t drive.

Four law enforcement agencies in Marshall County are in the middle of the state’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign through the Labor Day holiday. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Bremen Police Department, Plymouth Police Department and Bourbon Police Department have increased sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and saturation patrols in an effort to take impaired drivers off the roads. Man Rushed to Hospital after Burglary

Officers from the Plymouth Police Department are investigating a burglary incident at the Maax business at 1001 N. Oak Drive in Plymouth.

Police say a man entered the building in the overnight hours on Monday and was found by a worker at the bottom of the stairs inside the building with a change machine on top of him. Emergency responders and Plymouth firefighters responded to the scene and lifted the change machine off the man. The man was flown to a South Bend hospital by Med Flight.

Marshall County Prosecutor Files Drug, Prostitution Charges against Plymouth Man

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman filed five charges against 68-year-old James A. Irwin, of Plymouth, who is suspected of drug dealing and solicitation of prostitution.

Irwin is facing felony charges of dealing in a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, dealing a substance represented to be a controlled substance, and promoting prostitution. Two misdemeanor charges of patronizing a prostitute have also been filed. Additional charges are being considered by the prosecutor’s office.

Plymouth Police Looking for Armed Robbery Suspect

Plymouth Police detectives are searching for a suspect in a reported armed robbery incident at Verizon Wireless Monday night.

The victim told police that the man entered the store at 1605 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth wearing a mask, orange vest, black pants, and shirt. The suspect, a black male, branished a weapon and reportedly took several phones from the store. The man left the business in an unknown direction.

Seven Arrested on Drug Charges

Seven people were arrested on Wednesday night after officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Green Street in Plymouth.

As a result of a search of the home, Marshall County Drug Task Force officers along with officers from the Plymouth Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department filed charges of dealing marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, and visiting a common nuisance.

Three Local Police Agencies Join Campaign to Arrest Drunk Drivers

Three local law enforcement agencies will be working to keep impaired drivers off the streets in the upcoming Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police Department and Bourbon Police Department will increase sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and saturation patrols beginning in mid-August through the Labor Day holiday.

Marshall County DUI Task Force Successful in Recent Enforcement

The Marshall County DUI Task Force recently conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 1500 block of North Oak Drive in Plymouth and several officers participated in that enforcement.

According to Marshall County DUI Task Force Coordinator Patrolman Troy Ulch, 153 vehicles were stopped while 195 vehicles were allowed to pass around the checkpoint. Warsaw Theft Investigation Leads to Discovery of Meth in Plymouth

Two Plymouth residents were arrested Sunday, in connection with a theft from a Warsaw store, the hit and run of a security guard, and the discovery of methamphetamine. At around 7:00 p.m., Plymouth Police say they were told to be on the lookout for a white 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. The car was allegedly used in a theft from the Warsaw Kohl’s store and a hit and run of an asset protection associate.

Charges Pending in Intimidation Case

A Plymouth man is in the Marshall County Jail after an alleged intimidation incident.

An officer from the Plymouth Police Department was called to a residence in the 200 block of East Lake Avenue after receiving a call about intimidation with a weapon. The officer spoke to the victim and later found the suspect, Jorden McCoige, a short distance away from the scene.

Plymouth Police Finalizing Hiring Round, Fire Department Looking for Paramedics

Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon is getting closer to hiring a police officer for his department.

He told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety last week that the field of 33 applicants was narrowed down to 26 who were invited to the written and physical agility testing on June 24. Bacon said 21 attended the testing and 17 were able to move on to take the written test after passing the physical agility portion of the process. Thirteen of those tested are now on to the next phase of background investigations.

Plymouth Man Arrested on Drug Charges

A Plymouth man was arrested on drug charges on Monday after a short pursuit with police.

A Plymouth City Police Department officer saw Johnny Paul Whitt, Jr., 46, driving his motorcycle in the area of Skylane Drive and Michigan Street. Police say Whitt had an active warrant for his arrest and he does not have a motorcycle license.

Pursuit, Standoff Leads to Arrest

One person was arrested on Saturday night after leading several police agencies on a vehicle pursuit and a standoff in Marshall County.

An officer with the Bremen Police Department reportedly attempted a traffic stop in the area of West Shore Drive at Lake of the Woods. Police say the driver, Donald Dickson, Jr., refused to stop and led the officer on a pursuit on 4th Road. The 20-minute pursuit ended after Dickson lost control of his car and crashed into a cornfield at the intersection of Hickory Road and 9B Road, according to police.

Plymouth Police Looking for Burglary Suspect

Plymouth Police Department detectives are searching for a suspect who reportedly stole a trailer and shop equipment from the Auto Park Service Center in Plymouth.

Police say a break-in occurred at the company at 201 Airport Road in the overnight hours on Wednesday, July 19. A 2011 flatbed JB Enterprises trailer with the license plate number TR928ATN was stolen. Shop equipment that was on the trailer was also taken.

Three people are in custody on check fraud and theft charges from CJ Poly in Plymouth.

An investigation by the Plymouth Police Department reportedly found that a previous employee, Autumn Burnham, created checks without authorization. Burnham, 32, along with 35-year-old Jennifer L. Krueger and 39-year-old Wendy A. Milton allegedly cashed these checks totaling approximately $20,000 at Lake City Bank in Plymouth.

Security to Tighten at Marshall County Museum

Staff members at the Marshall County Museum and officers from the Plymouth Police Department are working to keep surveillance around the building to ensure safety.

Executive Director Linda Rippy told the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning that juveniles have become a problem as they are getting on top of the museum’s roof. She said it’s dangerous with electric obstacles and the overall safety issue of being on the roof. Plus, it’s unlawful.
