Schools around Indiana will soon get handheld metal detectors. Now, school safety officials have to figure out how they’re going to use them. Last month, Governor Eric Holcomb launched a program that gives metal detector wands to every school that requests them. But it doesn’t provide funding for guards to staff a security checkpoint.

Street Superintendent Discusses Semis Causing Yard Damage at Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting
Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt alerted Board of Public Works and Safety Members about some problems with out-of-town semis utilizing residential streets and causing damage to yards.
During Monday night’s BOW meeting, Marquardt said he’s received similar complaints in the past but they’ve been coming in more frequently lately.
“This spring has been crazy on semis coming down Beerenbrook, trying to turn onto Harrison to go toward Flora and they’re just tearing yards up,” Marquardt explained, “and before they’ve had some little problems, but in the past week, it’s happened three times.” Continue reading
Plymouth BOW Considers Police Chief Requests
Plymouth K9 Officer John Weir will be seeking grant money to help purchase a new K9. Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety membrs Monday night for permission to move forward with that action.
Plymouth Police Chief Bacon Reveals Start Date of New Officers, Requests Permission to Apply for Department of Health Grant
Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon came before the Board of Public Works and Safety last Wednesday where announced that two new officers, Nicholas Kindig and David Finn will be starting soon. He told members the new officers will be officially sworn in the morning of Monday, January 8th.

Police, Fire Department Receive Donation, Payment
Two monetary items were accepted for the Plymouth Fire Department and the Plymouth Police Department.
Fire Chief Rod Miller told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety this week that the department received a check from Notre Dame for required medical services during practices in Culver. Miller said the check was in the amount of $3,080 and will be deposited in the gift fund.
Plymouth Police Finalizing Hiring Round, Fire Department Looking for Paramedics
Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon is getting closer to hiring a police officer for his department.
He told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety last week that the field of 33 applicants was narrowed down to 26 who were invited to the written and physical agility testing on June 24. Bacon said 21 attended the testing and 17 were able to move on to take the written test after passing the physical agility portion of the process. Thirteen of those tested are now on to the next phase of background investigations.
Plymouth Police Chief Addresses Traffic Flow around Lincoln Jr. High School
Plymouth City Police Chief David Bacon presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members with a solution to a traffic flow issue on school days around the Lincoln Jr. High School.
Chief Bacon said Mayor Mark Senter and City Attorney Sean Surrisi met with the Director of Safety and Security and the Transportation Director from the school corporation to address traffic issues. He said traffic gets snarled around the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up portions of the school day at Lincoln Jr. High School.
“Traffic gets backed up on Gibson onto Liberty so we looked at ways to remedy that,” said Chief Bacon. “One solution is no parking on the south side of Gibson from Liberty Street to the circle drive. That will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days only.”
Plymouth Officially Joins Marshall County Central Dispatch
The City of Plymouth is officially signing on to Marshall County’s centralized emergency dispatch service. An intergovernmental agreement was approved by the Plymouth Common Council Monday. Continue reading

The stretch of Harrison between Michigan and Plum sees frequent truck and school bus traffic, leading the board of works back in April to ban parking from Michigan to the alley half a block to the west.
