Plymouth BOW Considers Police Chief Requests

Plymouth K9 Officer John Weir will be seeking grant money to help purchase a new K9. Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety membrs Monday night for permission to move forward with that action.

“In the past for our K9, we always relied on donations to purchase the dog and yearly we budget a maintenance amount,” said Chief Bacon. “This year he’d like to rely on donations and grants if possible. I’m requesting your approval for submitting paperwork for the grant. There is no monetary match on our part.”

The cost to purchase a new K9 is about $16,000. The board members unanimously approved the request.

The police chief also asked for an executive session date so the board members can interview candidates for open corporal and sergeant positions.

“For the sergeant’s position you have to be a corporal to be eligible for that. We have two sergeants and two eligible corporals.”

The meeting will be Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. There are eight candidates interested for the corporal position.

Additionally, the board unanimously agreed to allow the police chief to seek quotes for two new squad cars budgeted in this year’s budget.
