Semi Drivers Suffer Minor Injuries in Fiery Wreck
The drivers of two tractor-trailers involved in fiery Saturday morning crash on U.S. 30 at Queen Road suffered minor injuries, according to officials with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. They responded around 7:30 a.m. to the wreck in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 at Queen Road.
Area Firefighters Battle Field Fire
The Plymouth Fire Department was called to a large field fire Monday afternoon.
According to officials, a farmer was conducting a controlled burn that got out of hand on Hawthorne Road. The fire went into a bean field and the ditch. It also jumped the road into another ditch and another farmer’s field.
Plymouth firefighters arrived at the scene at 3:16 p.m. ET and asked for grass truck assistance from the Bremen and Bourbon Fire Departments. Four grass trucks, a tanker, and an engine used 1,300 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The firefighters remained on scene for just over an hour.
Plymouth High School Students Participate in National Day of Service
Plymouth High School Key Club members participated in a National Day of Service on Monday to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Several students were at the Plymouth Fire Department washing fire trucks while others were lifting and carrying boxes down flights of stairs to help organize things at the Marshall County Museum. The animals at the Marshall County Humane Society got some exercise Monday morning when the students took them out for walks and played with them. The students also cleaned the cages and gave the animals food and fresh water.
Fire Crews Respond to Grain Dryer Fire
Plymouth fire crews responded to a grain dryer fire last night on Juniper Road.
According to Assistant Fire Chief George Cook, the dryer on the silo became clogged with corn and caused the dryer to combust. Firefighters had to cut out the dryer and evacuate some corn in order to put out the fire.
The estimated damage was unknown.
Firefighters were on the scene for two hours with a tanker truck, rescue truck, an ambulance and an engine truck.
Semi Driver Treated After Single Vehicle Wreck
A semi driver from Harvey, Ill. was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for evaluation after his truck jackknifed Monday afternoon. The wreck occurred at the intersection of King Road and U.S. 30 at 1:16 p.m., according to a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department news release. Edward Tripp Jr., was turning onto King Road from 30 when the crash occurred. The fuel tank of his 2007 International semi was damaged, and fuel leaked onto the roadway. The Plymouth Fire Department assisted with the cleanup.
